Question on Ops in and around Plymouth, MI

Hi all,

First time poster, but long time lurker. I'm a native Californian, and snobby western railfan :P , but truly enjoy photograhing railroads anywhere. I have family in Plymouth, MI, and am going to be visiting there in a little over a week, and am curious if anyone can pass along some pointers on current operations for Plymouth and the surrounding area. It's been about 5 years since I was last there, and on that trip pretty much just what I was able to find running on ATCS Mon. Also if anyone has suggestions on interesting locations to check out I would appreciate that too. I'm not going to have much time this trip, but would enjoy making the most of the time I do have there.

For fun here are a couple of shots from my last trip to visit family in MI:

Many thanks,

Q334 and Q335 should now be Q328 & Q329. X500 is long gone.

I found a website that listed all of these from 2013 which is the latest year I could find. I probably should have put that in my original post. :P

I'd suggest going to this page http://railroadfan.com/wiki/index.php/CSX_Train_Symbols
Hit Ctrl + F and search for both Detroit and Plymouth to see which train symbols are in that area.
As for locations to shoot from, looks like you have a decent idea where to try. I've been in Plymouth a few times in the past couple years, and not terribly pleased with any of my shots anywhere near the diamond.

Hi All,

Thanks for the comments and suggestions regarding symbols and what is running in the area. Just got into MI this evening and going to try to get out in the AM tomorrow and the next morning.

Many thanks,

Hi all,

Wanted to post anther thanks for the info. I did not have a lot time to get out while in Plymouth, but did get one shot of at the old C&O freight house in Plymouth.

From the CSX symbol list that a link was provided for, I believe this train was Q508 as it had a long string of empty steel slab cars on the end, and was headed for Detroit. Was rather odd (to me at least) to see a good sized train with only one unit. I've gotten used to UP running everything with at least two units around where I live.

Many thanks, and take care,
