Re: Marquette Rail Santa Express
Through the rumor-mill, I've heard that due to power difficulties as of late, and the start of grain season out of Newaygo, Santa train power might come down to the mighty GP-9. Yes, Dick Dilworth and his mighty long hood forward 4433 may have the distinct honor of escorting Santa this year. God help us all!

I didn't want to say it on here because it was supposed to be a secret but I guess the cats out of the bag now! They have been waxing the 4433 getting her ready.

Never seen her run. It'd be really cool to see her lead. What type of horn does she have?CAT345C wrote:I didn't want to say it on here because it was supposed to be a secret but I guess the cats out of the bag now! They have been waxing the 4433 getting her ready.

You guys really should be careful what you wish for. And no, she does not have paint that is her skin color.

Re: Marquette Rail Santa Express
Anyone know where the "unlisted" stops are? I noticed they stopped in a couple places not listed last year. I saw them stopped north of 7 mile? And I'm pretty sure they stopped on the Newyago Hill south of town too...

I'm just trying to figure out where I can get shots. I don't want to bypass a spot if I can actually film thereamtrak1007 wrote:Sometimes they're secret for a reason...MQT3001 wrote:Anyone know where the "unlisted" stops are? Unscheduled stop is just that.... Maybe they had to sand the hill, or maybe somebody had to water...MQT3001 wrote:I'm just trying to figure out where I can get shots. Re: Marquette Rail Santa Express
I've witnessed a few of these unscheduled stops for the Santa train. Sometimes it's not a pretty scene! Everyone is better off just sticking to the main roads and the scheduled stops.

Re: Marquette Rail Santa Express
I've started poking around some weather forescasts, and it looks as if it'll be just above freezing if next week is an indicator. The 10-day wants low 30s on the 9th, 10th & 11th, the last days forecats (Sun-Tue). However, the 9-14 day outlook is calling for above average temps (35-36) and above the average precip (.60inches).
If it's not going to snow, at least have it be 50 so I don't have to worry about my camera! (or hands )

Well lets just hope that there is snow on the ground. It's just not Christmas without snow. The M5 just bounces off snow better than bare ground!! I just hope that the train will be well received. I hope Rail America sees the value of what the original Marquette started.
