Jackson Michigan area customers
Jackson Michigan area customers
I was just wondering which customers receive service in the Jackson area.
I don't think JAIL serves anyone south of Mason, so everything should be NS.
Going from Chelsea west to Albion, this is what I can find.
Chelsea - Chelsea Milling Company (aka Jiffy Mix)
Jackson Yard Area - Aunt Millie Bakery?????
Jackson Yard Area - Miller Truck and Storage??????
Jackson Yard Area - Certainteed Corp. - cars on spur in Google Maps
Jackson Yard Area - Amtrak Signal and Maintenance
Jackson South Branch - Omnisource
Jackson South Branch - Dawn Food Products
Jackson South Branch - Gerdau
Jackson South Branch - Worthington Specialty Products ???????
Jackson South Branch - Amerhart (taking over General Materials location, possible return customer?????)
Parma - Parma Feed and Grain -(siding still looks intact, but I have never heard of this being a customer, nor have I seen anything there ever)
Albion - Knauf insulation
Albion - American Colloid
Albion - Georgia Pacific
Albion - Andersons Albion Ethanol
I don't think I missed any.
Which trains usually work these customers?

Re: Jackson Michigan area customers
Here is everything between Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor:
Parma Feed and Grain is not an active customer. Spur is used for MOW.
Worthington supposedly gets cars in a big block 1-2 times a month.
Amerhart will be getting cars delivered to its new Jackson yard here soon.
You missed Continental Carbonic Products which is attached to The Andersons Ethanol Plant in Albion.
Here are the NS Michigan Line train symbols I am aware off (please correct me if these are incorrect/old or I missed one):
B01 - Burns Harbor to Decatur
B05 - Burns Harbor to Lawton local (Wednesday only?)
B16 - Jackson local
B17 - Wayne Switcher
B18- Wayne Switcher
B19 - Wayne to Oakwood Yard turn
B22 - Jackson to Albion local (sometimes Chelsea)
B25 - Wayne to Jackson Road Train
B33 - Jackson to Battle Creek Road Train (affectionally known as the "Breakfast Express")
B44 - Jackson to Chelsea local (mainly serves Jiffy Mix)
B57 - Battle Creek to Augusta local
Aunt Millie's should still be an active customer.chapmaja wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 9:38 pmI was just wondering which customers receive service in the Jackson area.

Re: Jackson Michigan area customers
Not sure if it will be a regular customer or not....the property across from the river and Christoff and Sons Floor Covering (the old Toy House) in Jackson that the JAIL runs next to had the brush cleared and leveled up had 5 BNSF gons of steel brought in that I suspect is being used as a retaining wall for the bridges project on the Michigan Line.
Re: Jackson Michigan area customers
I am trying to figure out what property you are talking about on while looking at Google Maps. What streets would this property be on, that might give me a better clue where you are talking about. Are you talking about the property at roughly 381 / 407 Jackson St?Buster Manning wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 2:02 pmNot sure if it will be a regular customer or not....the property across from the river and Christoff and Sons Floor Covering (the old Toy House) in Jackson that the JAIL runs next to had the brush cleared and leveled up had 5 BNSF gons of steel brought in that I suspect is being used as a retaining wall for the bridges project on the Michigan Line.
Re: Jackson Michigan area customers
One more question about the property in Jackson. At the back side of the area that houses Miller Truck and Storage it appears there is a drop pit for unloading hoppers. Does anyone know if this ever gets used anymore? My guess is no, but I wasn't sure.

ADBF has already had one, one-off transload down in Jackson. Maybe they got a second one?Buster Manning wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 2:02 pmNot sure if it will be a regular customer or not....the property across from the river and Christoff and Sons Floor Covering (the old Toy House) in Jackson that the JAIL runs next to had the brush cleared and leveled up had 5 BNSF gons of steel brought in that I suspect is being used as a retaining wall for the bridges project on the Michigan Line.

More customers then I would think considering most people who don't know the Michigan Line seem to think the freight side of things is basically dead.

Re: Jackson Michigan area customers
When did they stop running to Kalamazoo? I know for a while they had a Jackson-Kzoo turn, then they were having the Battle Creek job run over there, too.

Re: Jackson Michigan area customers
It's been a while, like maybe early 2020, since they stopped interchanging with the Elk. B33 turns in BC now and B57 only goes as far as Knappen in Augusta.
Amen! There are 20 active customers (some fairly large) between Augusta and Chelsea.

Re: Jackson Michigan area customers
Who owns the spur that used to be the Cincinatti & Northeastern or whatever that runs through Jackson? Does Amtrak/MDOT own and maintain all of that trackage too? Even the yards that NS operates out of in Jackson, BC etc...NS3322 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 5:39 pmIt's been a while, like maybe early 2020, since they stopped interchanging with the Elk. I believe Amtrak/MDOT owns the C&N spur. All of the crossings have Amtrak placards.LansingRailFan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 10:07 pmWho owns the spur that used to be the Cincinatti & Northeastern or whatever that runs through Jackson? I thought I remember reading at the time that NS was to retain the BC and Jackson yards...not sure if this is still true?
