Greetings, MI Railfans,
I purchased tickets to take my dad to Utah via Amtrak on 5/8 for the 150th anniversary of the driving of the Golden Spike. We're on the early train to Chicago and the CA Zephyr for the day-and-a-half to SLC arriving Thursday night.
Just curious: Is anyone else active on this board planning on attending the festivities?

Anyone going to the Spike 150 Celebration?
Re: Anyone going to the Spike 150 Celebration?
If the line from Corrine still went to Promontory Summit and one could ride an excursion on it, then I'd go.
Re: Anyone going to the Spike 150 Celebration?
UP 4014 not enough for you?
Re: Anyone going to the Spike 150 Celebration?
Do you already have a ticket for the May 10th event? It's $20 for a parking pass.
Re: Anyone going to the Spike 150 Celebration?
Hi Tim,
Thank you for the reminder! I do, thank you, for all three days. Do you need a ride to the event? I have an empty back seat...

OK, I actually went to the "HUGE" weekend events with my Mom (Susan)!!!! We flew out from Metro Airport on Wednesday May 8 returning yesterday May 13!!!!!!!!!!
We "Chased" the Spike 150 "Double Header" too with UP "Big Boy" 4-8-8-4 #4014 and "Living Legend" UP 4-8-4 #844!!!! There was just no time to post here before going! Now, after my film is developed/scanned I will upload some pix to this site with a "Trip Report!!!!!"
Below are pictures from my first (and only until 2019) time at Promontory Summit, Utah, 8-19-2003 and UP "Challenger" 4-6-6-4 #3985 (only UP steam I saw before 2019) departing West Chicago, Illinois on June 18, 2002 (all photos by Dad (RCJ I) with Canon® 35mm S.L.R. cameras):
