Southwest Chief Derails At Union Station

Unread post by EJE Dispatcher »

Southwest Chief derails at CUS this afternoon, Causing Metra inbounds and outbounds on BNSF to be delayed up to 75minutes or more, Metra outbounds service to Joliet and Manhattan not moving.

Amtrak trains are expected to be 2 to 6 hours late to destinations.

That musta happened right after I left as I saw come into town while I was waiting for a Metra at the Airline overhead; throw in that a yard move with a lite unit slid thru a stop signal right in front of 351 coming at 21st street and it wasn't a very good day at CUS. Myself, I almost took out a NIPSCO truck at the powerplant crossing in Michigan City while on 365 this morning, couldn't have missed him by more than a couple of feet----I hope he needs new underware.

Between the Metra delays on the BNSF this morning and afternoon I say everyone down at CUS had a crappy day.

I heard through the grapevine that 365 was supposed to have the 511 leading? Or was that 371?

Yes, yesterday's 365 had the 511 leading; while the view was very nice, the lack of heat sure wasn't....

What kind of railroader are you, lee?! We had guys this morning complaining because the heater wasn't adequate. Yours wasn't working, you should've refused to move the train like they did.
The dispatcher is cool.

This coming from the guy who works in a t-shirt and shorts all year long.....

Let me just say that even though I didn't have a stocking cap and gloves on, I had three layers of long sleeve shirts and my coat along with my rain pants on and it was tolerable. While I could believe that those thin-skinned freight engineers would not like the cold stuff, the conductors SHOULD NOT be complaining too loud as they will be able to dress for it as they have to go outside and work--sometimes. I'm sure the hoggers could afford some long undies if they would just drive down to their bank and get some of their moldy money out, unless it's not on the way to the Subway, 7-11, Tim Hortons, their 'news' stand of choice..., while on the way to work.

Don't they carry duct tape anymore??

Another hit for Metra with a derailment on the WC in Buffalo Grove.
