Elkhart and Western files to acquire former Monon trackage

Unread post by jrgerber »

Apparently only one current customer. CSX put in about 9,000 ties within the past four years, but why is the line embargoed? What is the track like (90 pound?)?

Anyone know who the one customer is? And it doesn't appear they have shipped much recently.

Thanks jrg. Monticello Farm Service has a moderately sized fertilizer terminal and next door, Adkev, has a spur. MFS spur looks active but can't tell is Adkev is although their spur looks maintained.

There are no other spurs but the pass by a very large aggregate pit and semi-trailer plant in Monon.

Also, they have no passing sidings on their segment. They'll have to run around their cars in CSX's Monon Yard.

The only customer on that line is the fertilizer plant on the north side of Monticello. From what I've read elsewhere, CSX has been trying to abandon the line for years, but MFS has been receiving enough cars to keep getting service.

Here's the thread on the Indiana Railroads' forum about the line: http://indianarailroads.org/board/index.php?topic=14254.0
