Train dims lights in Bryan, OH

Unread post by NickThatRailfan »

So I was out in Bryan today and this is the first time this ever happened to me. This intermodal train with 2 UP leaders passed me and as he got closer he dimmed his nose light and shut the ditch lights off. He had a clear signal so he was not stopping, and there we're no other trains near. I have heard that if they do that they are trying to ruin a railfans shot? But I don't know if that is true. If anyone knows why they did that let me know please.

Could have been trying not to blind you, or anybody else, in the area. That's the normal reason why.

i would think dimming the light would make a photo turn out better... and is friendlier.

If you’re filming and a crew does that at night, it is a lifesaver…so you don’t have to deal with the lens flare. Train crews are people too you know!
