Zanesville & Western Scenic RR

According to the Z&W Scenic RR’s Facebook page, they have been shut down by the ORDC until further notice citing that there are no safety violations, but that brush needs cleared near East Fultonham before operations can resume.

They seem to have a strong group of volunteers and have made progress over the years. Hopefully things will clear up soon.

ORDC meeting back in May mentioned they will begin looking into ending their ownership of the line. ORDC was responsible for reimbursement to ODOT the cost of cleaning up from flooding caused by debris washed up against bridge abutments on the line.

ORDC is looking into ending Z&W’s ownership if the line? Or ORDC’s ownership?

Z&W leases 15 miles of track from the State of Ohio. ORDC manages the ownership of the Glass Rock line for the state. ORDC has for years kept the line “railbanked” but the prime development site on the line has been parceled out making it no longer a possible source of future rail traffic for the line. The state is now considering selling of the line. Z&W's website states all bridges are non-operational for passenger service. So the line would need $$$ for any type of future operations.

Of note they have nearly/ over 1 million dollars of fundraising goals on their site. Including $700,000 alone for one bridge.
