The Ticonderoga Railroad

Unread post by Derektrainman03 »

The Ticonderoga railroad (Reporting marks TICON) was a fallen flag class I railroad that had the purpose of doing the iconic “Pencil Express” train from its creation of 1920 to its end in November of 2020. The railroad was born on September 24, 1920; the railroad served the Ticonderoga pencil company and with other industries around the area. The states that the Ticonderoga served was: New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Ontario part of Canada. By the Great Depression, the railroad was one of the survivors of this crisis while in 1930 bought the ill fated Lawrence and Ontario Railroad (L&O). But by the 1940’s WW2 was the new crisis, this railroad eventually began doing supply trains and troop trains to Springfield, MA where it then goes via Lawrence and Ontario to go to Lawrence, MA and then the troops take a truck to go to Cape Cod and then by ship to the Western Front. After the war, the railroad immediately began tests for new diesel electric locomotives, electric locomotives also were present on the New York Main but was removed in 1974 due to diesels being more reliable and cheaper to maintain. By the ‘80s, the railroad had various paint schemes: the two common paints was the black, yellow, and green, and the green, yellow, and eraser pink. There were also other paint schemes on the railroad: bright and dark series, metallic series, quantum series, and more. By 1999, the railroad had a total of 198 engines on the roster and finally started buying more locos by the late 2000s. By 2019, the railroad falsely accused the Moxie Corp Railway for taking some of their tracks, but after some investigations the railroad was fined with $8,000,000 for falsely accusing a railroad that did not do. By November 2020, Ticonderoga Railroad filed for bankruptcy and the railroad was no more. The reason the railroad was bankrupt was because the Ticonderoga pencil factory had building code violations and the court case also the locomotives were expensive to maintain. To this day, half EMD and ALCO locomotives went to MOXX while half GE and ALCO went to the West Mountain & Concord Railroad (WM&CC). The Ticonderoga railroad routes and some former L&O routes to this day are under the Moxie Corp and the West Mountain & Concord.
