Steam Crane #1 and #2 to Cumberland shops for a derailment. Due to the excessive weight of #62, the rail has given out and caused 62 to derail. No injuries were reported, but #62 has some damage to wheels and Cylinders on Fireman's side.

You guys are like 20 times faster on 1223 as we could ever do in GRR. Our steam crew is experienced and could do it, it's just we don't have facilities or enough manpower. They were not reluctant to let you guys restore 1223, but can't wait to operate her!

After the testing of #6200 , #80, and the rebuilding of PM 1223, the M&NTCo Cumberland will be constructing new steam locomotives. These new engines are based off the ACE-3000 designs, but will come in more varieties. I know those reading this think steam is dead, but these new engines run off a cleaner burning coal. We will build one for demonstration purposes. If anyone wants details on the NGS-1X please feel free to PM me, or if you want it demonstrated on your RR, please PM me.

Could you possibly build MQT an "American" style 4-4-0? We'd like it to arrive in Q4 2013.

If you're building steam locomotives from the ground up, how much trouble would it be to build a class J3 NYC Hudson(4-6-4)?

PM 1223's Frame is mostly finished, now its being modified to have rollerbearings. Tender is about 75-78% complete, but there are still numerous leaks. Boiler is still undergoing internal repairs, including new tubing and crown sheet on firebox. Rods are finished and the new pisons have been machined.

One of our 2 roundhouses in Martinsburg has burned down due to an unknown cause (at least at this time). Fortunately no one was injured in the fire, but 4 passenger cars, 2 boxcars, 2 wooden cabooses, and Shay #63 were severly damaged. The Cabooses were burned down to the steel frame. The other roundhouse is still tact but has some smoke damage. The repair shop between the 2 roundhouses has some fire damage, but otherwise is intact. Also lost to the fire was steam cranes 3 and 6 which were in the roundhouse for inspection. The whole complex will not be reopened until the Martinsburg fire department says its structurally sound. All cars and other rolling stock will be sent from Martinsburg to our car shop in Brunswick. Fire damaged equippment will be sent to Mt.Claire for repairs.

The cause of yesterdays fire has been determined. The fire occured when a spark (possible from a welder or grinder) set off a trash can that contained oily rags in it. The fire then spread to the wooden body caboose that was on the track beside the can. The burning caboose set of the wooden structural supports and got out of control. The Caboose is a total loss, burning to its wheels. The roundhouse was completely destroyed. From now on, more safety precautions will be taken to prevent another event such as this from happening in the future. As of this time, the remaining roundhouse and both shop buildings will not be reopened until further safety inspections of all buildings in the complex are determined to be structurally sound.

The remains of the roundhouse that burned down, will be torn down. The roundhouse will unfortunately not be rebuilt. Because of this incident, heres a little history of the Martinsburg facility. Both roundhouses are B&O designs (both are the only remaining of this design). The Martinsburg roundhouse was built in the 1840's and was the B&O's first engine/machine shops built. In the Civil war, the yard and shops were destroyed, as was portions of the town. On May 22, 1861, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and his troops halted all B&O traffic from going east at Martinsburg and Point of Rocks. Once all trains were stopped, Jackson's troops blew up bridges west, and blew rock cliffs to block tracks east. 42 locomotives, 386 cars, 36 miles of track, 100 miles of telegraph, and the first Martinsburg roundhouse complex was destroyed. Between the years of 1866-1872, the current shops were constructed. In December of 1962, the M&NTCo was formed and was jointly owned by the B&O and WM. In 1967, the B&O filed for bankruptcy, leaving the WM with ownership of the M&NTCo. In 1973, the WM went bankrupt. The Martinsburg shops were left vacant, until 1977, when the M&N became its own entity and bought the B&O trackage west of Baltimore. The shops served as a car shop for mainly passanger equippment, but could serve as a locomotive repair facility. The first roundhouse (west RH) is still used. On January 5, 2013, the second RH (East RH) burned down.

Inspection train I-1 will take safety administrators to the Martinsburg Shops to help determine what new safety regulations will have to be made to prevent another fire.

Tomorrow, demolition will commence on the remains of the East roundhouse. The west roundhouse will have a sprinkler system installed, as well as up to date fire alarm systems. The Remaining portion of the complex will be closed for the next several weeks.
