Where the heck is all the coal for Essexville. This area is such a drag. Same power over and over. Hard to know when grain trains are running because Rail America and LSRC use cellphones most of the time.
Only time you hear Rail America is when train crews are switching. Or entering certain sections of the RR.
LSRC and SBS only talk on the radio when switching or in Saginaw yard. However, even then you'll hear about "giving someone a land line"

Q33529 cleared MP 75 (Zimmer Road) westbound at 8:55a. Reported by defect detector at MP 79.9 to be 6007' with 440 axles. CSX 7585 in the lead.

Why would they go out to South Lyon? I thought they only go as far east as Howell for the GLC.Gregg Pullano wrote:CSX is running a D709-29 between Lansing and South Lyon at this time. Clear of Green Oak about 45 minutes ago heading west, per Mike Tabone and i995impalla. We're unsure if they are doing any industry switching or just going straight back to Lansing.

When needed, they go to Green Oak to service CTC Truss, and then run around the train at South Lyon siding. Today was one of those days.Chrisracer8903 wrote:Why would they go out to South Lyon? I personally think it would be a much better idea to have one of the Plymouth locals do this work, but that's just me.
Yeah Gregg, I agree. Only Y107 goes the farthest west out of Plymouth and that's Heater's Yard, which is not far at all. Didn't D709 come to Plymouth at one point back when CP was on the Plymouth Sub?

The road crew out of Grand Rapids to recrew D709-28 did no switching moves. They just took the 23 cars in their train back to Ensel, picked up the rest of the Ensel power and went back to Grand Rapids. I figured something was up when the train was recrewed with its original train number. Instead of D909-29 as would be the usual case, they came back west as D709-28, the original train designation.
Am not sure what happened this time, as they went east by me at 108am after picking up three loads at Ogihara. They had three Century Truss Loads they had been carrying with them for days, and were to pick up two empties they brought to Century last week. D709 had intended on making that move the night before, but the RN told them he could not get any of the switches to work at South Lyon, and did not know what they would find when they got there, so they turned at Howell.
It really made no matter that the GR recrew switched nobody going west, for GLC had already gone south AND north before 709 came, and the eight cars 709 had for them would have sat there until Monday anyway. Same for the two International Paper loads in his train that did not get spotted, as they too would have sat in the plant until Monday before being unloaded.
D709-08 would have had to have met a G859-25 grain empty somewhere between Howell and South Lyon. Perhaps the RN stuck them at Brighton going east, and perhaps the switches still would not work at South Lyon.
