Re: CN Location Updates December - 2023
They broke a drawbar between line 31 and 32 near mp218 last night. The drawbar punctured a covered hopper loaded with plastic granules spiling them onto the tracks. It took the car department hours to get the drawbar out and to patch up the punctured car. It sounded like the car with the broken drawbar had damage that prevented replacement in the field, which is why it was towed back to Battle Creek. 364 and all other traffic had to use the service. That's the first time I've ever seen amtrak on the service. I posted video a bit ago with clips from the live stream chronicling 394 by here. I still have amtrak and that sand train in downtown Lansing to post at some point as well.David Collins wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 11:08 amWhat happened to 394?KC8RBK wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 10:04 amBnsf 8232/3958 lead 116 by 205 at 1002. Re: CN Location Updates December - 2023
Hello to all my railfan friends!
Southbound...um...something by Linden at 4:37pm with GTW 8952 Heritage Unit leading another CN unit, 109 cars.
This train has everything! A few single stacks on the head end, several centerbeam loads of lumber, quite a few loaded coiled steel cars, some sand hoppers, a mix of some other manifest, and lots of autoracks.
If I had to guess, it was 508 going South, and if so, was not aware that he carries that much coiled steel and autoracks. Then again with darkness being as early as it is, I rarely see 508.
Anyway, enjoy the GTW Heritage Unit if you have the chance.
BTW, off topic but my old Radioshack hand held scanner finally broke recently after many years of good use. Anyone have a good recommendation for a new one? I'm thinking I'll probably get a Bearcat, but will have to do some research into what the best brands are. Don't want to spend a lot of money, but do want something that receives well and will be a good scanner for years to come. I guess there is still time for one last gift idea from Santa. lol.

Re: CN Location Updates December - 2023
507 went through Pontiac around 6:20 pm and now at 6:45 pm. 508 is rolling past MP 22.5. Yes, 508 and to some extent 507 are the most mixed freights running on the Holly Sub in years, bringing a nice break from 50 plus years of auto-related freight cars.

Re: CN Location Updates December - 2023─GTW 8952 Heritage Unit!!!!
OK David Lang, it looks like this is train L508!!!! CN "GTW Heritage Unit" SD70M-2 #8952! Hopefully this power will stay on this train for a few days/weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I may be able to get this soon! Alright, what time does L508 usually pass south through Royal Oak? Looks like in the dark though! Well, while waiting for "Dead Cowls" to surface─this is something we can capture! I see it is now posted on "Heritage Units" where it was on the way to Flat Rock last night (12-17) on train 508!!!!David Lang wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 4:43 pmHello to all my railfan friends!

SB 515 with 5423 went past MP 22.5 at 8:09 am with 24 empty gondolas (a record probably), 14 loaded centerbeams and 8 or 9 boxcars.

Re: CN Location Updates December - 2023
Thanks RobertTrains for the confirmation on Train 508.
Looks like GTW 8952 needs a good washing - all heritage units in my opinion should be washed - be proud of your heritage - ware those GTW colors clean! (Yeah right, the RR could care less about clean locomotives). I remember when railcars were clean and devoid of graffiti, but I guess we won't go there. Back in the day locomotives were a lot cleaner too.
