D802-10 between 04:59am/05:29am released their EC1 authority on the Fremont sub-div mp CGC34.5 They ended up cutting their train to get it over the Saugatuck Hill with BNSF engines #6149 + #6337 & 128 loaded coal cars & rear dpu's CSXT engines #586 + #989.
Wow. Four functioning six axle AC locomotives couldn't get 128 loads up the hill.

Sounded like one of the engines was having issues with the trip optimizer that was causing less-than-expected performance. Since they need all four engines running at 100% to barely make the hill, throw in the rain last night and they definitely weren't making it without all four online.

Doesn't sound like it "optimized" then. Bet that just frustrates the heck out of the operating crew. Something designed to help operations made a routine slug up the hill a much longer affair; probably with a lot of extra steps in the damp wet night for the conductor. I'm guessing the (experienced) engineer probably could have manually operated the train up the hill on the first attempt without the optimizer. Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. I've never ran a freight train.

Lol, I'm pretty sure more engineers out there would vouch for the statement that Trip Optimizer rarely "optimizes" anything! haha

TO attempts to be more fuel efficient by knowing hills, tonnage, etc. It won't let you slam the power down just to approach a speed restriction, or anything like that. Seems like the problem is that it is so directly tied into the GE's computer system that it is hard to kick off, and the railroads demand that crews operate with it for fuel savings.

Trip Optimizer has had more issues since PTC came around, as the systems wouldn't work well together. At least one of the Class Ones actually published a bulletin for a good long while telling crews to leave Trip Optimizer off while operating in PTC mode, while they tried to sort out the bugs. The crews then had a double-edged sword: no TO, but they then had to deal with PTC. Many at least liked actually being able to really run the train for awhile.

D801-11 @ 09:22am has his EC1 to depart West Olive mp CGP 1.0 with CSXT engines #989 + #586 & BNSF engines #6308 + #9097 & 130 empty coal cars. He will be going into Grand Junction siding mp CG53.9 Change in plans at 09:59am, he is to take his entire train to Riverside for an "E crew" to take it from there near N. Shore Drive. The CSXT engines will be cut away to DP the N800-09 that has been tied down there since April 9th. It appears the D801-11 crew is running low on time & another "D job" will eventually move it out.

Q327-12 @ 09:36am westward reported by DD mp 91.9 with 184 axles & 2,553 ft. CSXT engines #5402 + #5317 & 43 cars. Q326-12 is going into Livingston Siding mp CG99.3 to clear up for Q327.

d801 will leave the mt's in grand junction with the bnsf power , then go to riverside, via benton harbor
and reverse move back onto the loads at riverside and get them ready to move to the plant, rn didn't
say if the d job will take the loads to the plant or will cab back to west olive
there is a crew called on duty soon, but rn didn't say if they were for the loads at riverside or the empiteies
at grand junction
