Shortline Train Location Updates - March 2021

Unread post by ~Z~ »

Grand Elk north through Byron Center at 4:10pm. WAMX 4124, WAMX 4125, both facing north so likely LHF on return south run, approx 35 cars.
A lot of tank cars from Bay Valley foods on the headend, and some box cars near the rear from Otsego.

Back south at 6:35pm with same power and 51 cars.

The Otsego boxcars were on the Otsego line in Plainwell when I came through at 6:15 this evening. They usually pick those up on the return trip. Not sure what would have been in those that went past you. I know they often have boxcar traffic for the MQT.

One of the customers down near Three Rivers gets a good amount of boxcar traffic from CSX via the Elk. Graphic Packaging in Kzoo also has gotten some CSX traffic in the past. The GDLK is in a position that most shortlines only dream about, direct access to 3 Class Is.

INER 1602 is out of the paint shop and leading tomorrow’s train from Fremont, IN to Coldwater, MI. Looks sharp.

Around 1:00pm, GRE took 3 hoppers into AMWAY and took 2 out. Looked like over 20 hoppers for King.

JAIL came north today. They went to CN and Picked up one 2-bay CH, 3 tank cars with 1075 placards and 3 empty gons.

They spotted the gons into Padnos and then went south power light, leaving one tank car in Saginaw Yard and taking the other two plus the covered hopper and leaving them in Ensel.

It seems like JAIL was handling bridge traffic between CN & CSX.

So it seems like there’s been more of that recently. The other thing is that they have two tracks in Ensel Yard. They use one to store cars for businesses in Mason. There’s a place that buys sand and a propane transload. So they will keep the cars closer there as they tend to pick up and drop off in Ensel daily.
