New Symbol 271 - Cool! (Actually 271 is an old symbol from maybe 20 years ago they must be reviving).

Thanks for the info Lansing Railfan.
E271 is not a new symbol. It is an auto rack repositioning train that has been running on the Mount Clemens sub 3-5 days per week for years now with empty racks from Canada for Flat Rock. Symbol is often used system wide - also frequently appears on the Flint sub out of Sarnia. May have been used to move some loaded racks today and added empty centerbeams to fill the train out. An E271 ran Sunday night on the MTC sub...

Yep, you are correct Man o' War, I remember the 271 symbol now on the Mt. Clemens sub.

Sorry about that.

CN has been running a few grain trains lately. G802 is definitely a new symbol I have not heard of before, and more rare is a Grain Train on the Mt. Clemens sub.

Hand off from Somewhere on the NS? It came up from Toledo and was handed off to CN in Flat Rock. Some people are saying it was on the IORY but they did not handle the train so idk.

Very interesting. One time move similar to the one from Durand - GLC from Oakley.
Their export biz seems to be growing or at least seeking new business.

G802 is a regular symbol for Canadian prairie grain trains (Alberta), no idea why they tacked it on this one. During harvest season in the late 90's and early 2000's, G872/G873 were relatively common on the MTC sub, although some of the face-plant kids have already mentioned that this may be the first ever grain train on the sub. Amusingly naive...

L533N has finished working Fraser and will pick up his FCA block in Mount Clemens for the trip to PH - 19:53.

Ok. So G802 originated on IORY west of Cinci. It’s not connected to the IORY that terminates at Diann. So they were forced to interchange this train with NS. They handed it off to CN at CP YD on the shared assets.

So based on your research Lansing Railfan, it appears G802 was a fluke. Time will tell of course, but more grain trains on CN through Michigan would certainly be welcomed from a railfan perspective anyway.

As far as face-plant naïve kids go, all they need is a little history lesson is all. Sometimes you can't help not knowing what you don't know. I will be the first to admit I am always learning. :D
