Unit potash train with CP power westbound cleared Salem 1630.
I had checked thru the overnight scanner archives & as of 8:25am nothing has been heard from K831. Usually, the CSX West Michigan scanner will hear the radio calls starting from around mp CH 101 to Grand Rapids.
Earlier posts indicate this train was destined for Webberville.
Oh ok, I see my error. When I had read it was westward, I had assumed it was en-route to Grand Rapids. I re-checked the earlier posts for K862 & found it was westward, but, was still east of Webberville where it will deliver to.

I recall some potash trains way back when I was dispatching that came up from Toledo, but don't recall where they were headed! It used to be all of the coal was eastern coal and came up from Toledo headed for West Olive, so the Plymouth Sub got the pounding instead of the GR Sub (except between GR and Waverly). They sometimes added pushers at Plymouth that cut off at S. Lyon. History now!

hi c&o ds
back in the days of the gp 7's, 9's, 30's, and uboats. the wb coal would have 5 to 6 engines for power
and depending on track conditions would add the yard engines at plymouth to push em up the hill,
the helper would cut away after salem at the top of the grade and run back to plymouth.
wyoming would add an extra engine from the loads to 80 and 82 to run back to wallyworld.
iirc 3 motors were std power for empties back to wallyworld

I remember 80 and 82 which later became TL80 and TL82. Yes, they did sometimes handle the West Olive empties, but often remember they also ran the empties as separate trains. For a period of time when the RR was so congested, they recrewed the coal trains out of Walbridge with a new crew at Plymouth to head west. Pushers ran through the south pass to get behind them to shove west. Good times!

And back "in the day" potash trains came from Florida's Bone Valley. Now they come from Sasketchewan for the most part.
We took one LIME train up from Plymouth...I had requested pushers from The Chief before we left Walbridge...we climbed through Salem at a slow walk for MILES. Had two U30C pigs that kept dumping their Hot Diode switch. We made South Lyon despite the lack of pushers but I would say those electrical systems probably were no longer quite the same shape as they were before.

Investigation "invite" in the mail -- certified. :) Maybe we need a "back in the day" category on here. Or, maybe not!

The old time musings are great - keep them coming. I know many of us enjoy them a lot, even if we don't add anything in the affirmative!

I'll re-check from the scanner archives, if another call isn't heard, when it becomes available in about 10 minutes.
Good catch, Micah_D, it is D905 :) Did you get a scanner, or, using Broadcastify?
