CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
The only thing I heard on the scanner all night was D707 taking over the D708 train that had died. Never saw or heard a thing of any D901 train. This means that two days after the fact, the cars for GLC that D706 off in Brighton on Monday are still there, and the cars GLC sat out for CSX are still in the Howell pass. How ironic. GLC cant get to their cars that are in Brighton, and CSX cant get their cars because they cant find a crew to pick them up seeing D708 does not go any further than Fowlerville, (if they can even get there)

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
Listening to the scanner, D708 working StoneCo today pulling empties on snowed/fouled switches. It doesn’t sound fun.
Next the crew apparently has to shove D706 back west past the Lansing airport because it died on the main in Ensel. Then hopefully they will go east.
388 is still in brighton hooked up to those cars on the siding there as plans changed last night.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
What are the Howell yardmaster's thoughts on having D708 just do Lansing to Fowlerville, have D707 run west as it normally does, but change the pickup/setoff of GLC traffic to D705/D706? Depending which way CSX wants to route all GLC traffic west or east, have D705 do the dropoff/D706 pickup, or D705 pickup/D706 dropoff for GLC. Have Grand Rapids and Rougemere build the blocks for Lansing and GLC traffic. Seems like GLC traffic is just too huge for D708 to handle, and having these D901's do it just doesn't make sense. D708/D707 wouldn't need to build the GLC traffic anymore, and could probably be combined like they used to where one day they run east, and one day west for service.

I believe GR is already building blocks for GLC as almost all the cars for the GLC are routed thru GR.~Z~ wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 2:07 pmWhat are the Howell yardmaster's thoughts on having D708 just do Lansing to Fowlerville, have D707 run west as it normally does, but change the pickup/setoff of GLC traffic to D705/D706? From what I gather, The issue stems from a lack of manpower from mid December until now. From what I gather the conductor pool was depleted due to some illness or whatever and they haven’t been able to get caught up. Not all are back still so rely on extra board.
there’s only two tracks out there and with almost all the traffic coming in one direction, I’m not sure how feasible that would be.
Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
Small correction, not that it matters - 388 is at the West end of the siding, just off Challis Rd, not attached to the cars that are a few thousand feet back. I guess 705's crew wasn't willing to attach it for the 901 crew. I'll bet the crew starts their work right as my exam starts tonight.LansingRailFan wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 2:05 pm388 is still in brighton hooked up to those cars on the siding there as plans changed last night.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
Regarding -Z-'s 2:07pm posted thoughts and suggestions, I am not sure if all of the this GLC traffic is coming from and going to Detroit or from Chicago. if not some from each direction. I think it would work out really well, if D706 has an Ann Pere GLC set off block that is set off in Brighton like they have twice in the past week IF ONLY somehow, GLC crews could get qualified to run between Ann Pere and Brighton to get them, (which probably would never happen even though that thought was once proposed for grain trains)
GLC usually will get their pick up from CSX and set off for CSX on the same trip. If they at first back their train west into town and into the siding, head directly east to Brighton and get their pick, back west to Howell and back around the transfer than its over and done with. Have the the next D705 get the pick up and start over. The first time 706 sat off cars for Brighton they did it from the east end, and was time consuming. Last time they did it from the west end, pulling into the pass, cut off from the rest of their train west of Challis Road, back west down the main and it was a fast move.
D708 should be just a Lansing to Fowlerville train train which would work if 706 did the east bound set off at Brighton, and 705 did the westbound GLC pick up and set offs in Howell. Or as -Z- says just the opposite depending how CSX wants to block the cars, out of Detroit or GRP. There would not be any more crossings blocked then there is now. By getting all this GLC traffic away from Ensel yard would be a great help to D707 & D708. Plus, whatever it takes to keep; parked cars off the main line for days at a time.

Just Crossed overthrew tracks on I-96 and it looks like something is headed down toward Plymouth on the Saginaw sub.
Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
Miracles, D70813 just went east by Howell for the first time since Dec. 22nd. Threes weeks and one day. Surprised the crew didn't have to be requalified. On its way to South Lyon with 28 cars, 25 for GLC. Plan is to go back to Brighton if they can make it, but certainly cant get much further than that. So who is going to recrew, D707 again or D901?
Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
May be a bit awkward with 388 right on Challis Rd, either they move it or block the crossing.
D708 must be east thru Brighton as all signals display a stop indication. Just picked up the 39.1 DD on the radio at 19:55.

Turning at South Lyon now.
And for Bob, if D707 has to rescue D708s train, so be it. Right now they are just trying to get caught up. Still no D901 OD yet from what I understand.

SB D735 at Middle River 1945. Looks like lead engine was 3029 with 3 more. Have never seen four engines on this job.

D906-11? east through Trowbridge at 21:10
I did not catch the lead unit, but assume it is still 3211. 738 was mid train

D708 just left it's cars on the Brighton main while it picks up the cut in the siding, this will be interesting.Dan Cluley wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 9:24 pmD906-11? east through Trowbridge at 21:10
