Walking the train after leaving track lights on and not trusting the DD is in case there is something amiss with the train that a detector might not catch. While they’re designed to catch dragging equipment, they are not fool proof. Two track circuits in a row may indicate something dragging that has knocked off any bond wires, broken feeder wires or even instigated a broken rail with a broken wheel or something. I don’t have the rulebook in for of me to be precise, but if they’re a key train the trigger for doing this is probably lower than otherwise. Better to be safe than sorry.
