Train 515 had 50 cars out of Pontiac today, which might be a SB record. Two locomotives, 5435 and 5852 again. The bulk of them were boxcars and coiled steel cars, which I presume go to Conrail/CSA at East Yard and which such interchange is growing leaps and bounds this past year. I wonder where the steel cars are ultimately going to on CSA? They seem to be loads SB to Conrail and empties coming back to Pontiac.

Train 251 was NB past MP 22.2 at 12:40 am. Didn't see it. Was out walking.

L533N by Mount Clemens depot at 17:25 with a good sized train. 533 has assumed some new duties as it runs daily now Port Huron to Detroit and return. It now picks up cars at East Yard that are set out by L515 out of Pontiac, and leaves a set out for them. Large block of boxcars today, and has been running with tanks, coil cars and even the occasional autorack. GTW 4912 was the power today.

Train 515 had 55 cars heading back to Pontiac late this afternoon flying by at 60 mph with two locomotives.

The large 533 pickup was from the 50 cars 515 took down today (see post from this morning). And the 89 cars 515 took back to Pontiac yesterday must have been in part from 533 (and I think a larger Conrail/CSA interchange at East Yard). But I cannot figure out the sense of routing cars from Port Huron to Pontiac when I don't think any of them are going to Pontiac or even Detroit. They are either going west or south. Why not put them on a manifest west or south out of Port Huron instead? At Pontiac they have to be put on a west or south train. But then I am assuming railroads are run based on logic.

Your guess is as good as mine with regard to what is happening here. I do know that much of the MTC sub local traffic (namely FCA) comes from Mexico, and it was being set out by EB manifests in Sarnia and then towed back to PH to be placed on the SB 533. Perhaps they are routing the WB empties back to Chicago out of Pontiac now, rather than PH? Doesn't explain the new NB 533 cars though. Maybe I can pin down a conductor on 533 when they are in town and grill him a bit. At any rate, with the expanded Conrail interchange, and the 515/533 pick ups/set offs, East Yard has a small up-tick in usefulness.

Signals are out at MP 22.2 (Opdyke Road) on the Holly. They were working at 8:15 and are out now at 9:15. A maintainer is sitting in his truck across the street. Train 515 with 25 cars and 5435 just went flying bye so he must have gotten permission to pass the signal from the DS (though I thought they still had to stop and he wasn't stopping).

Most of 515 this morning were coiled steel cars. And half did not have covers on them so the coiled steel (yes, loads are headed to Detroit) could be seen. I wonder if they are going to Chrysler's Sterling Stamping plant in Sterling Heights via CSA? They must get a lot of steel delivered there. I presume the plant is still open.

251 went NB past MP 22.5 around 11:30 am with two CN GE's. It had about 20 cars, box and loaded coiled steel cars, on the front end for Pontiac, I presume.

The signals are working again at MP 22.5.
