CN Updates - December 2019

Three SB's in a row on the Holly south of Pontiac this morning following Amtrak 351. At least two were probably EB's posted passing Charlotte late yesterday evening: A 280-type rack train with two BNSF's and a mixed freight with two CN elephant-style. The third was 116 with some mixed freight on the headend.

Amtrak 353 just went SB past MP 22.5 a few minutes late with the holiday seven cars consist and a P42 on each end, I presume to be able to run at the 110 mph with a longer train.

Yep, I heard those 3 trains, but didn't post them. I was busy working in the garage from about 6am to about 8am, when those 3 went by. I should have at least looked, but was busy trying to FINALLY unpack the stuff in the garage from the move. I remember hearing 1, didn't think much of it, then 2, which was cool, then WOW, 3 in a row!! That's a lot for the Holly Sub when there is only about 7 or so trains per day.

BTW, 251 was Northbound just a bit ago through Linden at 2:50pm. This is the second time I have seen / heard a 251 on the Holly. I can confirm this is indeed 251 from the dispatcher chatter on my scanner. This is a loaded autorack train in addition 371, which is the same. I remember the 251 train number from way back in the 90s. Its cool to hear that number again.

That 251 had a lot of head-end cars on it for Pontiac for the Local train out of there so it looked a lot like a 371 when it went by my house instead of largely an autorack train. A lot of coiled steel cars for the Conrail interchange at East/North Yards. Lots of loaded centerbeams and tank cars and some covered hoppers for the industries on the Mount Clemens sub at 7 Mile and 8 Mile. And a few cars for what looked like the Detroit Connecting Interchange at East Yard. Haven't seen a 371 yet today (though I was out for an hour this afternoon) so maybe it replaced it today.

Thanks Manistique. I thought it was a solid autorack train, but only saw the autoracks portion of the train and assumed it was an all autorack train like it used to be in the 90s.

It was pretty misty and foggy when he went by (I live one-quarter to one-third of a mile away and have to see with binoculars to get a good look) and didn't see the whole train.

Maybe we will see more 251s in the future.
