CSX GRE MQT Train Location Update 11-20-08

Unread post by Raildudes dad »

No interchange at the GRE with CSX last night. The local is working north of the diamond at 6:35 so maybe they will do an interchange yet early this moning. No crew on duty at the GRE. Saw a cut of hoppers at the MAC in Newaygo yesterday. The caboose in Grant has been restored to a yellow Chessie System? (9xxxxx number) paint scheme. US Trackworks was working on the new crossing at Rusche Dr between Ambassador Steel and Weekes Lumber.

Had to head home this moning to take care of a flat tire on mother's chariot. (She told me she "bumped" a curb yesterday with 3 day old new tires  - turned out she drove over a big ass cement nail) Anyways, no interchange occurred this morning, there were two GRE employee vehicles but no NS equipment or or employees. If I get any spare time, I might have to take a walk to do some track inspection 8)

Caught a S334-20 heading down the terminal and into Stanley with 4 motors on the point and two depressed center flats w/transformer loads several cars back from the head end. Fairly long train. A K178 heading up to the docks for an ore load, a short Q150 w/2 SD40-2's on it and an 8 car "Boulevard Bullet" with a GP15 heading up the terminal. A 34N and 23K on NS rounded out the lunch. Typical wintery crap weather here today though w/dark overcast...

Zack - could you add info on Q151 (today) and Q150 (tomorrow) to the daily update thread? Actually, it would be nice to see updates on Q132 & Q150 in general (since I catch those two periodically and Q132 in particular has more interesting power), but I just heard that today's Q151 has those two SOO units on it and they'll likely turn back on tomorrow's Q150. Last report Q151 went through Berea, OH around 1PM...

Thanks!

Both S334-20 and Q334-20 who were running 45 minutes apart through Howell this morning, had very long trains and both had four units. The first two units on S334-20 (7704-581) were off the K901-18 stone train that came into GrandRapids from Toledo, by Howell at 2am Wednesday. The second two units were the middle two units from Q327-18 had out of Detroit on Tuesday. The lead two units off of Q334's power was what Q335-19 had, which went from from Howell to Grand Rapids, and, back to Howell again in exactly 12 hours.

Eastern West Olive load N924-17 (I think was the date) went west mid morning ahead of todays Q335-20 Power was very very old C40's 7567-7491 which stayed with an empty train going as empties out of GR back on the 16th. Was impressed that they pulled the train so well.

Stanley, Walbridge and Vickers are all a 5-10min drive from my office. You can see why I'd put up with a lot before I ever leave the job I have now! And one of my coworkers is a railfan and goes along also...

That Q150-20 is the one I saw at lunch with a pair of YN3 SD40-2's running elephant style. Q132 is "scheduled" as an early morning (daily?) train through Toledo but frequency & timing can be very dependent on the hand off from UP and this is getting near the end of it's long run so I've seen it virtually any time of day (altough most often during the morning).

Thanks Zack!

Q216 cleared Plymouth about 1:00pm. CSX 4767 "Naked Nose" and CSX 219.

Earlier saw X500 along side with Y107. Y107 was pushing his cosist with CSX 1177. X500's power was CEFX 1052, CP 9549, and CP 5911. D739 is currently coming down from Wixom and going to East Yard.

Thanks what my son who worked within sight of CSX Radnor yard in Nashville for ten years, but commutted 60 miles each way in heavy traffic said. He is now in Sioux Falls South Dakota watching a BNSF short line trackage where he has seen but 73 BNSF units since the first of the year. Nashville? He says he'd never go back.

Yeah - the rest of life can certainly get in the way of railfanning ambitions, but fortunately my commute is 20-25 minutes (less than 15 miles) and I've been pretty happy with the job itself the last three years. Let's hope it stays that way!

CSX made the interchange with the GRE after my last post. The GRE left part of the deleivey and took part to Lowell. Don't know all that came but do know they left all hoppers when they went east. Looks like the "boss man" is on the crew today.

Where (what shipper) would the tankers on D739 have been coming from?

Did the tankers have hazmat signs on them? or just blank? If they were blank they are probably coming out of storage and going elsewhere : might answer SW question.... Of course if they are loaded it would be nice to know where they are coming from...
