Westbound with CSX 905 which I'm assuming is L302 crossed main street in Brighton slowly taking the siding at 17:10, immediately a clear signal on the main afterwards presumably for L303

L302's trailing engine probably is CSX engine #3302. Yesterday, L303-26 had CSX engines #3302 + #905.

3302 WAS trailaing 905 on L302 tonight. What TSBy390 did not say when reporting the train at Brighton was 302 only had 15 cars. With this and the fact L305 did not come to Howell today. M327 shouldn't have 177 cars again tomorrow.

Why the baggage car? The NS and CSX don’t have any axle count requirements, do they? The Pere Marquette did one round trip with just two cars in February, so why do they need to add a non-revenue third car now?

I’m just taking a wild guess but maybe they have a charter group that’s taking the train and they had equipment that they needed to transport say maybe like a marching band or something. It’s just a wild guess.

Hi ya, Todd, The only axle requirement for CSX that I'm aware of is 8 axles or more to run at TimeTable max speeds. Under 8 axles are restricted to 30mph.

True, I do remember those trips in the past. However, without a cafe car, I am feel it’s more likely the cafe car was bad ordered and they had no replacement so the baggage car was substituted. Amtrak is getting a lot more risk averse—maybe the shunt tests with CN revealed something and Amtrak changed its own rules to require 3 cars. Maybe someone at Amtrak just assumed that there had to be 3 cars since there are normally 3 cars. No way to know unless someone with inside connections reveals the story somewhere.

Still had some left over cars from yesterday's big L302 that didn't make 327 today, along with the usual collection from MQT and local traffic, betting that M32728 is still 130+ cars.
