What is the Lansing Manufacturers Branch? Is that the line to Reed Machinery?

L302 had 47 cars with its single unit 943 train. Sign of the future for as slow as traffic has been of late. This means L302,303,305 all had one unit today. The 71 cars on L305 from Ann Pere today was just as much a rarity.

M327-29 had started out of Grand Rapids with CSX engines #32 + #159 but the #32 had developed air issues when they had made it only as far as Ivanrest mp CG4.7 It was decided M327 would take the engines that were intended for today's L303 & L303 would operate with the only good engine (CSX #159) that was originally on M327 & CSX engine #32 would be left behind in Grand Rapids. L303 only had 41 cars when he had departed Grand Rapids.

No. The Lansing Manufacturers Branch is the west side line that brings the JAIL from the CSX down to New Hollow Yard and the connection to the CN just west of the GM plant. It starts just west of Turner Street parallel to the CSX, crosses MLK at a diagonal with Grand River, cuts south through the west side and ends at New Hollow Yard south of 496.

The line to Reed Machinery is a former LS&MS line from Albion. In the Conrail days I think crews called it the “Lake Shore South” or something like that. I’m not sure what JAIL crews refer to it as.
