At around 03:00 this morning, G789-02 loaded grain train from Webberville stalled on the hill east of Howell. After a few tries they decided to take the first 25 cars into the siding at Brighton where they would head back west to collect the remaining 66 cars. They would leave the 66 cars on the main, returning the 25 in the siding to the front. They had closed the switch at ADM at around 01:30 and were thru EE Brighton at 06:41. 91 total cars behind 7767 and 5348. The plan was to take G804 west on arrival at Plymouth however their issues prevented this.

W003-03 Geometry Train @ 08:13 heard moving around inside the Grand Rapids Terminal with CSX engine #9969. From Pudgy's report yesterday, they need to spin their train for the Plymouth sub-division run today.

He’s Wying his train & will depart eastward on the Plymouth sub-division. He will be testing the Main line & South Lyon siding mp CH84.8 & Trowbridge Siding mp CH37.7

Seems like this happens every once in a while with these loaded grain trains stalling on that hill, is it a matter of being under powered? If not what causes trains to stall on that hill?

Something was wrong with one or both of the engines. An ES40DC and a CW40-8 should be able to handle a typical grain train on Ann Pere hill.

Y106 east by CH 146 in Kentwood at 10:13 with 9 cars. Who knows how many axles, don’t care how many feet, an irrelevant amount of tonnage, and they have work for somewhere because, guess what? They wouldn’t be running out this far otherwise.

The reason for the stall east of Howell on G789-02 this morning was that as soon as they started climbing Ann Pere hill, in combined with wet rail, 7767 quit loading. Go figure this fine locomotive would quit loading. Was listening to the entire move between Webberville and Brighton but Amessmann must have missed that. Crew went to the hotel and will bring G804 back west upon their rest. Thanks Pudgy for the location of where CALERA was. Never knew that but will remember it now.
