I heard it is simply named for the jails (something like 3-5 of them) along the route and the "I" doesn't represent anything more than that.

Someone else said that "ai" represents "and" in latin or some other langauge so if one is inclined they can say it is Jackson "ai = and" Lansing or something like that.

Personally I'll go with the first reason cause it will take a rocket scienctist to figure out the 2nd and railroads are not supposed to be that complicated :)
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...

What power is on the Dinner train? Is it still the nice looking GP-9?

1751 I think?

Are any of the JAIL locomotives painted like 1751?

JAIL just headed south from College Road. They left between 18:05 when I last checked and 18:20 when I looked again. They had two LTEX engines, 3 boxes, 15 coil cars, and 2 mill gons in that order. I did get a video I'll post to my youtube channel tomorrow.

1751, 1752, 1758, and 1760 are all in the same paint scheme. So is 836? that is in Detroit. Not totally sure on that # of the loco.

The "I" stands for industrial. Jackson & Industrial Lansing.
And if there are questions/discussion please chit chat on the Michigan - JAIL forum, this one is for location update only.

The "I" actually means nothing. They added it in there so it would be a "catchy" set of reporting marks. It is called Jackson & Lansing Railroad, not Jackson & Industrial Lansing Railroad. Another example, look at their other short line, Detroit Connecting Railroad... DCON is their reporting marks.

But, back to the main reasoning for this thread... Has JAIL been using 1758 & 1760 lately, or have they been using 1419 & 1443 mainly?

I have only seen/heard the 1419 and 1443 lately. Almost daily. 1758 is still sitting behind the building in Mason. Has not moved in a week or so. I have not seen 1760 in a few weeks. Ralph

JAIL looks to be in Jackson just south of I94. When I went over the tracks there were cars down there. I'm going to assume its the south bound train. I was inside at RSDC all night so I didn't see when they passed by there. I think it was about this time of night when I heard them talking to NS on Sunday night. Happy railfanning all 00:12 2/16

It looks as though JAIL is getting ready to head south from RSDC. I can hardly see the engines towards College Rd. From here and can't see the tail end. Looks to be a lot of tanks on it tonight. I probably won't see when they leave as I have to get back inside. 22:57 3/10/11

JAIL just headed south from RSDC. Looked like they only had a few gons in tow but I saw them at a distance so don't quote me. 21:00 3/22
