Underexposed and contrast issues

REALLY like this shot, but it does need some work to get it to look right. Need some help guys.
Reject #1 underexposed:

Well...if it's underexposed and has poor contrast, you brighten it and add more contrast.
In the manual brightness/contrast control, I raised the brightness by 10 and the contrast 25 and came up with this:

Thanks bud. I did brighten it and add some contrast, but I didn't add enough of either I guess. Still not the best at editing!

Yeah just brighten it some and add a load of contrast to your original as my edited version of it is getting pretty noisy.

The exposure and contrast in Bob's fix looks good. W.yatt, in your second rejection, it appears you lightened it and didn't add any contrast because it looks really bland.

Played around with the curves tool on that. Never even thought to use it last night while editing. Oh well, I was running on 4 hours of sleep the previous night!
