DM&IR units

Unread post by GLC 392 »

also from the Trains Mag newswire.

"DULUTH, Minn. - With recent retirements by owner Canadian National, only 13 diesel locomotives remain painted in the maroon and gold colors of the Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range Railway in northern Minnesota. As major components fail, CN is retiring the locomotives and moving them to its Woodcrest Shop near Chicago for scrapping or sale.

The following are the units still painted in Missabe Road colors as of April 29:

Two "SD-Ms" (rebuilt SD9s and SD18s): Nos. 308 and 316.
Eight SD38-types: Nos. 201, 205, 210, 211, 212, 213, 214, 215.
Three SD40-3s: Nos. 403, 412, and 413.

Former DM&IR SD40-3s 400-402 and 404-409 are still in service and will remain so for the foreseeable future, but have been repainted into CN colors."

DMIR Units

Unread post by Aleks's Son Kyle »

Hey

I was just down there a coupple weeks ago and I caught 10 of the 13 I belive would have to check my notes in one day. Also caught the 410 but it was dead at Keanen yard due to a blown traction motor so it was retiried. Most of the DMIR units are still paired up together, there was only one mixed in with an IC and CNex DMIR unit. The CN repaints where mostly all paired together. I will be uploading my shots to this site from the trip soon I just have to catch up.

200, 303 and 410 are all gone now. 200 and 303 should be at Homewood by now and 410 should be well on its way there. 209 and 418 departed Homewood Yard relettered for PRLX along with former WC 3005. 869, 411, 202 and 417 are sitting in front of the shop so if the current trend continues, they could very well be scrapped soon. Every engine that has sat where they have been sitting the past few months was scrapped, so it doesn't look good for them.
