I caught a couple of NS SD40’s over in Bellevue coming/going on various trains a few weeks back, some of which had black and white stripes on the plows, very similar to what the Savannah and Atlanta heritage unit has.
These SD40’s looked to be yard only locomotives, given that they looked like they have connectors for yard slugs, and they also had strobe lights on their roof.
I have never seen a plain NS unit with these stripes before, can anyone maybe explain why they may have them and road locomotives don’t?

Visibility, visibility, visibility. Easier to see when approaching in a yard, especially at night or in the gloaming.
