SWBLW (Beep Information)

Unread post by TrainWatcher »

Been doing some research on my favorite ATSF Locomotive the ATSF Beep (Baldwin Geep).... I know it is still at the Argentine Shops between Topeka and Kansas City, but the unit is gotta be the oldest locomotive the BNSF owns, would they consider scrapping it, or would they sell it to a colleector?

Right now it's still alive and kicking at Argentine. When it comes time to retire it you can be 99.9% sure that it will be donated to a museum.

Yeah thats what I figured. I heard there was some speculation that it would be come a STUFFED Lawn orniment at one of the old ATSF Shops, but since crews like it so much, and EMD is still very popular on BNSF, that sucker has a good 30 years plus still to go... hopefully.

I saw it in Topeka about a month ago. Looked like it was still active as the shop switcher. But things can change fast.

Don't know about the paint job, but it is listed as out of service bad order as of December 3rd. A former BN SW1000, #3600, is the Topeka shop switcher...

They are planning on rebuilding the Beep but, they are undecided on if they will replace with another 567 or replace with a 645. She is still in the book end scheme.
