Re: Mid Michigan Railroad

Pretty sure Padnos processes the scrap in GR. They have 2 big shredders in the Turner yard. The scrap that leaves by rail is shredded pretty fine compared to some of the stuff in the "piles".

It's StanDALE Lumber in Grandville, not StanDARD :). The shippers sometimes get them mixed up as well.

Re: Shortline Updates May, 2021

CSX has had the King wheat since mid 2020 at least. King will periodically pit CSX and Watco/NS against each other for the best rate. If King does consume any local wheat, its all inbound via truck. Seems like it varies where they get their wheat from, as blocks of cars from UP, BNSF, CP and variou...

2 comments Ada is a township. There is no Village of Ada. The area across M21 from Amway is unincorporated. RailTex acquired Alpine Ave to Ionia as the result of a lawsuit over Pinkerton's acquisition of the GT trackage. Things might look different today if RailTex had been the high bidder for the G...

Re: What is Plaster Creek

MNS warehouses frozen products in undergrounds caverns? I've heard of bulk stuff stored in underground caverns but not frozen products. That would be neat to see. The Michigan Natural Storage company off Judd St by CSX uses some of the old mining caverns to warehouse refrigerated and frozen product...

They also offer dry storage underground. One use is protection of irreplaceable records / documents. https://www.naturalstorage.com/
Plaster Creek was also the location of Plaster Creek Tower. Dispatchers were located there before Jacksonville.

Re: CSX bridge over Ann Arbor Rd. in Plymouth Township

You can read the CSX Public Improvement Manual on line. CSX will let the twp paint it and landscape the property, if they meet CSX requirements. All township cost, not $1 from CSX. In fact, the twp get to pay an application fee to CSX for CSX to review the plans. $10,000 IIRC.

I was part of a tour of the Campbell plant several years ago. Unit 3 which is the largest, is a base plant for the Midwest power system, it runs full power 24/365. Unit 2 is a variable load plant dialed up and down to meet the needs. Unit 1 is the smallest and is only run if needed. It also is the o...

Yes,AARR and C&O Dispatcher, they did haul beer,at least some of it in piggyback trailers on the head end. One time the train derailed the first few cars eb just after crossing the Grand River and spilled beer all over between the river and Monroe Ave. Train had 4 geeps on the headend hammering the...

I don't believe Amway ever shipped anything out by rail. Quite a few intermodal trailers roll in and out although I don't know how the volume compares to the past.
