Re: Waterloo, IN
Signal bridge on the west end is not long for the world. Interail installed the #1 track WB replacement signal today and both supports and signal shacks as we were leaving around 5pm. Also, atleast 3 other signal crews are working between Bryan and Elkhart. Do you mean track 1 EB signal? The signal...

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
May your lens be long and traffic be light. Some of those signals are far off the road but can be captured from public crossings or nearby roads. There are a couple that I couldn't get close to on Sunday (east of Ligonier).TrainWatcher wrote:Crossing Elkhart-Waterloo off my list tomorrow.

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
Interrail seems to be doing the work (at least some of it) ... trucks with their logo on it were at signals near Butler on Sunday. New signals on the ground at Waterloo ... a single mast three headed signal for Track 1 EB was sitting by the signal bridge. A matched pair of single mast signals (two h...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
It looks like the coding for CP 3 is close to what it was before ... the bit assignments have been moved around and NT and ST are new but it appears the logic is the same. Has NS changed Lake Division coding when upgrading CPs or do they generally keep the PRR based coding? I was hoping CP 3 would g...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
ALSO, someone reported the insulated joints at MP 2.5 were removed in the last couple of days. The approach circuit shown by CP 3 now seems to show trains all the way up to CP 412 now I will have to keep an eye out for that. The northbound cleared 1NA at 02:30 ... then cleared 1SA at 02:38. 3WA did...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
I rarely monitor the Marion Branch ... their frequency is also used in Elkhart Yard and has a lot of yard chatter on it (if I were out of range for the yard it might help). I thought I saw the detector when taking pictures of the signal change but I missed it on the track charts.

A defect detector at milepost three point five on the Marion Branch. is this new?
The detector is part of CP 3.

More fun ... all freight is being held for a crossing signal test. Amtrak 30 is about to leave Elkhart at track speed testing all crossings from 421 to 410.

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
I'd like to thank NS T&S crews and Toledo West ... they are running trains through the crossovers at 417 and 412 to test the system. They ran a Eastbound Marion Branch train from 2-1 at CP 417 then 1-3 at CP 412. Then a westbound 1-2 at CP 412 then 2-1 at CP 417. A third train is being crossed 1-2 a...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
FYI: I have set up my MCPs with the switches numbered west to east 1.2.3.4 based on where they join the middle track (Track 2). 1-4 on Track 1 at CP 417, 2-3 on Track 1 at CP 412. I watched for a few hours last night and didn't see anything "illegal" ... and the lineups matched the radio traffic (ea...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
I was hoping that knowing that actual trains were passing would help ... most of the afternoon was work crews and testing.

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
Any idea what is going on at CP 421 tonight? For at least the past two hours, nothing has moved through the control point on ATCS. The line was closed for CP 417 completion until after 9pm. On Sunday there were welding crews working. I didn't see any work tonight. Eastbounds flowing through CP 417 ...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
The new address is what I am expecting for CP 417. the data from the "new" CP 412 is also what I was expecting. I need to watch the new address to verify a few things before posting a new kit. Is the Goshen radio back online yet? We are getting agregator data from somewhere ... NYC Museum? Cp 417 h...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
Nothing new for CP 417, so perhaps tomorrow? I see one report from "75501600010202" this morning at 8:55am. That is the number I expected to see used. Perhaps later today there will be more codeline traffic. I have also noticed that CP412 is completely different. It looks like all the switches are ...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
New 412 and 3 are on, old 415 still on. Not sure the plan. CP 415 remains active ... it will probably die tomorrow when the tracks are taken out of service. After the switch was removed the dispatcher continued to refer to it as CP 415. Toledo West has been taking full advantage of having two mains...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
Cranes have moved from CP 412 to CP 417 and 419. It looks like they are the next to spin. Crossings near CP 412 have been flagged all day with NS workers motioning cars around the gates. (Not that impatient drivers need much encouragement to go around gates ... a car nearly got hit by the crane taki...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.
CP 412 and CP 415 are in local ... CP 412 is spitting out six active bits I have not seen before. :) (via the Aggregator ... which started getting flaky Friday night.) "07R" NS 8883 is taking a few cars out on the track as a work train. An interesting dance to get authority from Toledo West to get 8...
