Drove by the GM Lake Orion Plant yesterday and noticed a very large addition underway there.
While the rails crossing Josyln Road are completely grown over with weeds, Here's hoping rail service returns!

Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
Thanks GRHC, appreciate the clarification.
I'm with LansingRailfan - hoping this will pickup soon and the elevator resumes service. I sure would like to take a picture of a train going across the old trestle across the river there just before the elevator - definitely a unique situation there!

Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
Hey guys, I want to apologize if I upset anyone. I did see the answer to AARR's question, why did rail service stop to the Hamilton Elevator, then the response that it didn't, then read an earlier post in which someone said "Personally, I can’t wait for the HNW to restart operations again. Hopefully...

So what's the situation with the elevator in Hamilton?

Re: CN/NS Intermodal Partnership, UP Streamlines Falcon Service
Now of course from a railfan perspective, it would be nice to see the potential for newly added trains in the future, but it will be interesting to note "if" there might be any extra trains that might run here and there if traffic volumes warrant it. Time will tell. I still think Moterm is busting a...

Re: CN/NS Intermodal Partnership, UP Streamlines Falcon Service
After reading these articles, I assume additional intermodal involved in these partnerships will be added to already existing trains, as the articles does not speak to newly formed trains as a result of these partnerships. Wondering if that is the consensus here?

Re: Shortlines Train Location Heads Up - September 2023
Sort of a late post here, but driving to work this morning (9/12), driving East on Grange Hall Road just North of Holly, saw a green signal for a NB Lake State Train and waited for him to come by. He was clear of the crossing around 6:15am with a CSX leader followed by a Lake State SD70 locomotive (...

Re: CN Train Location Updates - September 2023
Yeah, the "295" symbol doesn't make sense for an EB, but the 200-series number does. For as long as I can remember, 200-series trains on the GTW, and later CN, were autorack/autoparts trains. This train is basically another 280, but instead contains a different number, a "295" symbol - all racks for...

Re: UP Mines Question
WOW NS3322, that's an EPIC amount of rain! I seem to remember historic rain in Wisconsin several years back, but did not remember location and date. Thanks. If we are talking about washouts...with an "s", as in plural, now what you have of course is a lot of expense, but if the majority of that dama...

Re: UP Mines Question
Watco will have to weigh the cost of rehabilitating the line vs. the financial benefit if there is potential for reopening. I looked closely at google maps from the Michigan/Wisconsin border all the way to White Pine including many street views. Most of the street views are from 2008, and at that ti...

Re: Auburn Road signals in Utica being removed
Just drove Eastbound on Dobry in Utica today (7/23/23). They have removed the rails through the street, and have paved over that area with black top. The rail has also been cut short of the crossing. Also drove back Westbound on Auburn Road, where as of today, no such work has been done yet. Its a s...

Got stopped this morning on the way to work driving East on Grange Hall Road just North of Holly by a Northbound Lake State train (Don't know the symbol) at 6:20am. He had a CSX leader followed by a Lake State SD70M locomotive, with 113 cars. Some cars in no particular order included 2 long flat car...

Re: CN Train Location Updates - July 2023
This is the second time I've heard of a 253 symbol in recent weeks. Since there was a 253 last night, its likely 253 was the overflow of 251. They used to run an X-251 once and a while, but haven't seen that symbol lately. Whether yesterdays 253 was the overflow of yesterdays or todays 251, I'm not ...

Re: CN Train Location Updates - July 2023
You know, with all those 50 emojis used - I can't help but relate that to railroading. So you've got a locomotive with several cars coming back (backing up) to make a joint, he's rolling back, and the conductor is counting him down over the radio... "5 cars...4...3..." and the engineer is coming bac...

Re: What is the requirement of working on the rail road
I have a friend who’s about to start at NS doing freight car repair. What kind of stuff is he in for? Not being a railroad employee, I'll answer your question the best I can. Freight car repair in terms of schedule should be more predictable than train crew schedules. If we assume Freight Car Repai...

Re: CN Train Updates - June 2023
Thanks LansingRailfan for the symbol update. I'm now wondering since 251 now terminates in Battle Creek, will the same train continue West as 253 now, or will there be a 251 and 253 on the Holly and Flint Subs to Battle Creek? I'm hoping the Holly and Flint Subs will now have both 251 and 253, but I...
