Re: New NS Power?

CN/CP units are far and few between on my district but, the the last one I had (a CP AC4400) didn't even have an air conditioner. But I bet it had a really good heater, do they still have refrigerators, water coolers, and hotplates/microwaves? I believe it only had the hot plate and "refrigerator" ...

Re: Dakota Southern Railway

Always nice to see a shortline get some love. Hope they fix that ole C420. I read somewhere it was for sale (really wish I had the link to what I read) but, the asking price was on the high side.

Re: New NS Power?

Hoping widecabs go away is like hoping the moon doesn't rise tonight. Ain't gonna happen. What's the alternative? From a railroaders point of view. Wide cabs are nice. I do have a soft spot for standards cabs though. As far as wide cabs, I find our own (NS) to be more preferable, if not a little ba...

I would think that money could be spent somewhere a little more... needingly? Citys infrastructure perhaps?

NS has 233, 234, 218, 217, 236, 17M, 195, 18M, 272, 29G, 188, and 194... all are daily for the most part. There's generally a 960 most days, a power move to Elkart (This used to be on 17M). Also, a Midnight and 6AM local (5 day a week). You've also got the extra stuff, Coke trains, Coal (whats left)...

Cincinnati Railway cannot legally move freight by terms of their trackage rights agreement. They would have to have the G&W's blessing for that and it hasn't been given. If G&W doesn't want to move the cars, why wouldn't they let the Cincinnati Railway do it? (Make an exception is what I mean)

Re: Couple Chillicothe questions.

Barber makes large heavy duty industrial springs. Back ten years ago or more you occasionally would see a boxcar spotted alongside the building. Not really sure on the Hanson/Basic traffic other than it's not very often. They used to do the same up at Circleville on the track into DuPont and in Was...

Re: Couple Chillicothe questions.

Actually NS has trackage rights over the old B&O to access ADM. Usually it's L55 that pulls and spots the grain trains. NS derailed a few years ago over in front of the CSX office on Douglas Ave, I believe CSX won't let NS use six axles any longer to access ADM. There's no rhyme or reason why ADM u...

Couple Chillicothe questions.

I've worked the ADM grainery a few times on the locals. We place/pull the empties/loads in the middle track between Paint creek and Renick (Eventually a crew is called to come get it, either bringing power from Columbus or Portsmouth... or in some cases, one of the road trains has dropped power at C...

Currently not loading any cement at the plant. When shipping season starts you should start to see the older gravity feed hoppers get some use. Although with the lafarge holcim merger there is talk of closing the terminal that we supply. The pressure diff cars will be leaving the area as we no long...

EXACTLY CSX_CO. Its nuts out there and I'm glad I'm no longer involved. Try to legislate and rule everything from a whistle to a fart and you get soiled diapers. But then again, you only call AFTER you line the switch back...human error? Fatigue? Perceptive overload? New guy? Heck, one time we were...

Was this on the old Conrail Scottslawn secondary? If so then, yes, I believe its all track authority territory. The crew would have no idea the switch was open until they came upon it.

Google maps seems to have updated the area.

Although I don't know the date of which the new images were taken, the quarry south of Cecil has what appears to be a string of 2 bay covered hoppers. Anyone know what they would've been doin down there?

For those interested. They cut a couple of the jobs in Hobson, leaving i believe 2 on to cover the coal trains loading up to the north. I don't know how long the coal is suppose to be loading.

I was also told there'll be a shifter and a few extra board spots added in Dickinson.

Oh, and speaking of Cedar Heights Clay in Oak Hill, in the late 1960's and 1970's they had a fleet of their own covered hoppers...all of which were former DT&I cars and rebuilt and painted at the Jackson Car Shops. I can't remember if I've posted this before or not, but here it is for those interes...

For anyone who is interested. It's in the 1975 Penn Central Southern Region timetable. http://www.multimodalways.org/archives/rrs/PCTC/PCTC%20ETTs/PCTC%20ETTs.html Listed as "Carlisle Branch Ansonia Secondary Track" and "Northern Branch". Pages 27 and 28. Although, I can find no reference to grade p...

Re: NS West Virginia Secondary-Columbus Oh to Alloy WV

Apparently Wednesdays 380 and yesterdays 610/381 were the last runs. The only activity today north of Hobson has been a track inspector and an Ohio Central BOT1 working the mine at Burr Oak. Additional cars have arrived at Watkins based on the old classification software and there was speculation t...
