Looks like GRE left about 15 UP hoppers for King today.

Just heard GRE in Lowell. Not sure if they are arriving or leaving.

Y106 east by CH 146 with a GP40-3 and a whopping 18 cars. Lots of scrap from Beacon, a plastic for Cascade or Corvac and 5 boxes for Advance.

Y106 was moving cars between Alto and Elmdale around 12:30. When I returned around 4:30, they had left 1 carload of pipe. No tanks that I could see.

GRE just came back west with 20 from King and maybe 1 from Amway.

I could hear it all the way to Lowell! Wind must be out of the south.

People supporting this don’t realize that it costs a lot of money to run a train: crew, fuel, locomotive maintenance, leasing the passenger cars, and technically up keep of the tracks itself should be added. But the SOM will likely cover that cost for the state owned lines.

If you are going to reopen abandoned railroads, consider the old C&O north from the GLC west of Cadillac? Any rail line reopening would be expensive considering the proposed service will have a hard time covering operating costs on existing lines.

GRE left another line of mostly BNSF hoppers in Lowell. May have been the ones south of town, but too cold and dark to check!

All but 2 of the King hoppers are unloaded and there are 2 tracks of hoppers south of Lowell. Might be what was brought Saturday and some of the empties.

I thought I heard them in Lowell this morning. I’m guessing they took more back west.

GRE was switching King around 11:30. Most tracks are full plus 20 or so BNSF hoppers south of town. Did not see them head west. Ann Street yard still has more hoppers.

GRE yard had ~40 cars west of Alpine this afternoon, including 3 loaded center beams and the remainder primarily BNSF hoppers. 2104 was moving them around, after returning light from the east around noon. Around 6:00pm, looked like most of them were still west of Alpine.
