I believe the ex-NS FURX units Watco was leasing went off lease at the start of October. Did you note the WSOR locomotive number?Buster Manning wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2023 11:48 amThe new WSOR engine was sitting next to the station with the black engine right next to it with someone doing some work on it.

Re: Upper Peninsula Railroading
Anyone have any type of timing or schedule for the Port Inland Railroad or the mining railroad at Cedarville? I believe both are now mostly inaccessible to the public, unless you trespass. I think the Cedarville operation does cross at least 2-3 public roads via bridges. Timing or schedule varies. ...

Rode on the Portage Bikeway by Builders FirstSource in Portage today and noticed the spur had the rails dug up and cleared. Are they expecting a car soon?

Re: CN - Port Inland Interchange
The pebble lime from Graymont should be the only traffic interchanged with CN.
I've always wondered if Port Inland (Carmeuse) brings cars to the interchange or if CN runs down to the plant?

Your best bet is to start in White Pigeon and then check to see if they are at Atlantic Packaging in Sturgis. I believe Atlantic Packaging is the only Sturgis customer that gets switched every weekday. Pigeon River Materials/Elkhart Plastics in White Pigeon and Atlantic in Sturgis are currently the ...

Hi- I will be in Grand Haven in a couple of weeks over a weekend. I was curious if Michigan Shore operates on Saturdays, and if so, about what time does the train pass through? Thanks Unfortunately the Michigan shore is a five day week operation and you will not be seeing any trains in Grand Haven ...

Former troop sleeper that was used as a yard office is still around. It was moved a couple blocks east and is behind the Cheboygan County Historical Museum on Court St. It was placed on a pair of regular freight car trucks on a panel of track. It's visible in aerial views of Cheboygan. Don't believ...

I did a complete rewrite on the Wikipedia entry for NDW (not the Wiki associated with the forum, I don't have access to that yet). I read through all 83 pages here plus reviewed a lot of meeting minutes, etc. from the Ohio Rail Development Commission, news articles, press releases, etc. to get the ...

Re: UP Mines Question
Watco will have to weigh the cost of rehabilitating the line vs. the financial benefit if there is potential for reopening. I looked closely at google maps from the Michigan/Wisconsin border all the way to White Pine including many street views. Most of the street views are from 2008, and at that t...

Re: UP Mines Question
There’s washouts and sections of bridges missing. There’s no way that track is being reopened as it is too far destroyed. So why doesn't CN just file for abandonment if it's too far gone? Doesn't Watco own that now? Yep! I believe it falls under both FOXY and GDLK, but Watco is inconsistent on thei...

Re: Former bayer facility in Muskegon
Any updates on the plant and rail service to it? We really will not know until 2025 or 2026, when Life Sciences is expected to reopen the plant. Production at the facility is expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026, and it’s expected to “ramp up” in 2027 and 2028, MEDC officials said. https://...

Re: Tahquamenon River Boat / Toonerville Trolley final season????
Wife and I rode that about 4 or 5 years ago. Trolley wasn't much, but the boat ride was cool. Our tour saw bears when I rode it back in 2016, but they lured them close to the tracks with food. I only rode the trolley. There actually might be another tourist operation that opens up soon in the U.P.....

Re: GRE Grand Rapids Eastern (Lowell)
GDLK interchanges with GRE directly at Fuller. All CPMY traffic from the GDLK must go via GRE, as does any CPMY traffic from CSX. The Elk has direct access to GRE via the old interchange agreement from the Conrail/GTW/C&O days. All GDLK-MQT traffic has to go via CSX at Wyoming yard. MQT does have r...
