Re: NS. So what is next.

SWS is handled in the BNSF side.

HC right now is the domain of the three F59PH. It keeps the screamers away from sitting right next to the CUS concourse. (One F40PH nickname is screamer, due to the alternator HEP running in Run 8 all the time.)

Re: NS. So what is next.

The Metra Heritage corridor. Is weird. It heads in the south end, veers to the River Side, uses the bypass and actually unloads on an Amtrak (Hiawatha) platform on the north end. Watch this video, or zoom to the end and you can see. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ykMkvNmWY4 There are not many HC ...

And grain trains from the former PRR north of Anderson.

The NS local does not run to Indy anymore. So nothing uses the CSX/NS interchange at Anderson on a consistent basis

That is weird. The CTC is all on the Metra network. I imagine that will change with the move to the CRI&P

Re: NS. So what is next.

Does the Landers operator still control the Manhattan District (Metra Southwest Service line), or have those duties finally been conveyed to Metra? Metra controls all the former Wabash tracks in the Chicago area. One more thing about the Heritage Corridor, the trains are serviced in the facility fo...

Re: Norfolk Southern Marion Branch

There used to be a local that would come up out of Marion, back the connection and then run to Roanoke. GM stuff, not sure if it still runs.

Dan Cluley wrote:Just to clarify, Southwest Service is the old Wabash, and Heritage Corridor is the old GM&O to Joliet correct?
yes

SWS = old Wabash, Later N&W "Orland Park Cannonball" (which used to be run out of Dearborne, and then Polk Street Station)
HC = Alton, GM&O, ICG, IC/CN "The Plug"

Re: NS. So what is next.

The station change is about giving Metra room to grow, and combine things to save some cost. SWS will go to LaSalle Street Station. This will free up space to move the Heritage Corridor from the north (Milwaukee End) to the south (CB&Q end) of Union Station. This eliminates a headache move of the He...

Re: New Control Point CP Indy at MP B501.5

The IHB view of it (their routes only) is still active (71255610180202). The fact that the IHB has their own address means they are likely going to head their own way. CSX recently moved two desks out of the combined IHB/CSX dispatch center. Then took the two remaining and made one desk to cover th...

Re: Norfolk Southern Marion Branch

I passed through Marion on Friday and noted that the PLs (including the dwarf) were alive and well at CP 78 and CP 79. And no immediate plans to replace anything south of Wabash. There were some, but there isn't enough traffic and there are bigger fish to fry. We may have a small enclave of "herita...

Speaking of the IHB, what the heck is up with Gibson. It isn't showing any AK circuits north or east of the plant.

NS. So what is next.

Well. It has been an interesting few years signal wise. Create Englewood, Gateway, 2 Elkhart projects, Crossover additions over and above gateway, upgrades on the Chicago District and Kankakee, PTC. About four years of constant projects. So now we have come to the end of most of it. So the question ...

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project

It could be worse. N&W put in a system in 76 and 82 that was the cheapest and most low information ever on the New Castle district. You had ONE block between all MCPs no matter how long it was. (Also has single direction intermediates in places just to save cost) http://madisonrails.railfan.net/munc...

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project

367 should be the standard setup. Two blocks each side on each track. (despite the fact that there are only 2 intermediates between 367 and 360) Here are some general standards NS follows. One or more intermediates between MCPs. Two blocks. However in the case of there only being one intermediate we...

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project

The old NYC system with all the discrete blocks cost a FORTUNE when it was put in, and it would have cost double what NS payed to replace it. The dispatcher doesn't need all that information, because the computer keeps track of the trains with Alpha tags in the office. Speaking of the old system. Cu...
