Re: CSX Train Location Updates: August, 2018

CSX intermodals for Detroit go the facility at the south side of the former Livernois Yard off Dix Avenue. Oak Yard on the other hand is split between CSX local carload traffic and CP intermodal. CP leases part of Oak Yard for its small container business. No CSX intermodal is handled there. CSX pow...

Re: Amtrak Michigan Services: Schedule Effective 07/16/18

If some of the Amtrak trains ran on the South Shore, the logical way to enter Union Station is to build a connecting track at Grand Crossing. This is where the ex-PRR main crosses the IC main. This was also the proposed location for the Illinois downstate trains to connect which was discussed when i...

Re: Passenger cars that GTW hauled to Durand

Too bad that when the shop removed the class lights, they did not see fit to touch up the paint. The "white plates" referred to earlier look out of place and detract from the loco's appearance.

Re: NS Chicago Line Dispatcher Territories

Did the radio channel on Toledo East change recently? I have the usual former PC/CR channels as well as commonly used NS channels in my scanners. Radios (vehicle permanent mount and handheld portable) were silent from just east of Toledo as far as Huron. I heard no equipment detectors despite numero...

Re: The trains blocking roadway in Woodhaven

Isn't there a hand-thrown switch on this trackage? It seems from past observations that trains inbound have to stop to throw the switch then slowly get underway again. Is this the case?

Thanks to your posting, I found the Amtrak Interactive Service Map. Heard about it, but never saw it. Pretty slick!

Have you ever seen a locomotive roof open up like that other than after a violent collision with something like a drawbridge counterweight?

Re: CP Holiday Train

Dan, I would plan more on 7:30 PM for emerging from the tunnel. It finishes the Windsor visit about 6:30. They move pretty quickly after that considering it is their railroad until they hit Conrail Shared Assets. Better safe than sorry.

Huckleberry RR School Trips

Has anyone heard when Cross Roads Village Huckleberry RR will be hosting the school trips? Maybe December 8th?

Re: CN (GTW) Santa Train?

Nowhere near South Lyon. That town is on CSX. GTW Jackson branch through South Lyon has been gone many years. CN Santa train stays on former GTW or DT&I lines.

Can someone confirm that there is a sidewalk on the east side of the highway bridge at Tappan overlooking Tunnel Yard? Thanks.

Apparently, Indiana bans liquor sales other than inside bars and restaurants on Sunday. Found a reference on google. Didn't know that.

Re: CN Lansing Thoroughfare

I thought the double track main was changed to single track to accommodate an expansion of the Oldsmobile Assembly Plant some years back. A remnant of the 2nd main then became known as the thoroughfare. Does this ring a bell with any of the older guys in the Lansing area?

Sounds like the Lounge Car Attendant may have been slow in setting up shop. I know of no prohibition for alcohol affecting this service. Generally, they wait on business class first and then regular folks after tickets have been lifted. (Around Burns Harbor not all the way into Michigan)

I think hoborich is on to something here. It seems that the narrow banding issue came up before in some scanning discussions. Some folks thought their radios were worn out or had bad antenna connections.

Re: CSX Signals

PTC is the correct answer. Many signals have lasted well past their design life and would eventually wear out but the current push is dictated by newer PTC-compatibility requirements. The new southbound Middle River 3-headed signal is now in use. Searchlight signal removed.
