Re: GTW 5831, CN M385 and the NS boat line job - Flat Rock and Delray Junction

M385 was late because there was a crew shortage due to the wait. CN was in fact running trains through the bomb zone by 5:00 am Tuesday morning - after the track department made inspections and made sure there were no live canisters near the gauge. The railroad was chomping at the bit to get moving ...

Re: CN Train Location Updates - March 2024

Big a** fire along the tracks south of Mt Clemens. Some people claiming a train is involved. No confirmation. https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=warren%20scanner Fire is adjacent to the tracks near M.P. 18. Dispatcher is holding M382, M384, M385 and M383 until area is clear and safe - likely in...

Re: CN Train Location Updates - February 2024

OK Folks, CN "EJE Heritage" ET44AC #3023 did not come back north on train 382 today (2-25) as some predicted! I "ZOOMED" by bicycle to the tracks when I heard a northbound horn from my new house in Fraser around 11:30 a.m. Well I made it in time by a few minutes! The sound really travels on these n...

L533 departed Chesterfield for Port Huron on the MTC at 09:45. L515 (CN 5466) departed Mount Clemens at 10:30 for Nolan with 31 cars. Will set off a long cut of loaded centerbeams at Nolan Distribution and pick up equal number of empties for Pontiac. Empty boxes from Chrysler in MC, several empty ti...

A pretty good assortment of photos going back to the 1800's https://aadl.org/search/community/railroad?mat_code=photo&size=100 https://aadl.org/sites/default/files/photos/N186_0021_015.jpeg "Ladies and Gentlemen - arriving on track one..." Re: CN Train Location Updates - February 2024

SB 515 with a new locomotive, 5466, is rolling past MP 22.5 at 7:50 am with another short train. Can't speak for what that train looks like coming and going on the Holly Sub, but it's been pretty big on the MTC Sub lately - came into Mount Clemens with near 30 cars today. The crew has requested an ...

Re: Carleton Yard

Much of what you mention was well documented on film by Emery Gulash, including a train on that NE wye, the two tracks on the Lincoln Secondary, and the concrete signal mast at the diamond. Also the four tracks south of the diamond on the C&O. BTW, there is a PRR cast iron keystone whistle post that...

Re: Michigan Grades

Can someone confirm this? 5% seems too steep. Gratiot Hill at the Michigan Transit Museum (Former GTW Selfridge Spur) gets up to a 5 percent grade at one point (or so I've been told) and was at one time the steepest grade anywhere on the GTW. Selfridge Spur is 1.35% ruling wb grade (per mid-century...

116 is turning back time with a caboose on the rear, not sure on it’s whereabouts at the moment.
Peculiar looking thing. I'm wondering if it is one of the tricked out PTC testing cars that have been roaming around.

Thank you for the detailed information Your welcome Don. Also, forgot to mention Hoover Treated Wood Products, which was receiving cars this past summer and fall. Also, I know that Cadillac Oil received at least 2 cars this year. Don't know much about them. Even when only the big 3 mentioned above ...

Re: CN Pontiac Yard, December 2023

I don't believe L515 services all of the above every day. You’re correct. Chrysler and Nolan are probably daily. DCON, CR, GLR and Polyterm several times a week and the others as-needed. Chrysler, Nolan and Polyterm are switched Monday thru Friday. Occasionally, a 515 will be sent out on Saturday i...

Re: CN Pontiac Yard, December 2023

I think that boxcar is used in Chrysler (or whatever it's called now) parts service to the warehouse in Mt. Clemens. It's odd that sometimes those boxcars are delivered to the local in Pontiac and others the one in Port Huron. The Chrysler cars have not come out of Port Huron for a long time now. S...

Re: CN Dearborn Sub

I know the wiki is really out of date, but I notice it says there is a CN interchange train between Flat Rock and Oakwood Yard (R975). If that or something similar is still running now, perhaps the plan is to have that train pick up blocks of intermodal at Oakwood, take them back to Flat Rock, then...

Re: CN Dearborn Sub

I hope all of these trains go via the Mount Clemens Sub. I'm with you on that! With only four manifests and two locals (neither of which run the length of the sub), there is a ton of capacity here. Straight shot, CTC, some double track and two controlled sidings - it's begging for more traffic. The...

Re: CN Dearborn Sub

So after confirming with some reliable sources, its happening. I'm not surprised the maintainers don't know anything because the boots on the ground guys are usually the last to know anything, unfortunately. The Dearborn Sub will be upgraded to 40 mph with CTC, PTC, and CWR. This is for new intermo...

Out and about today, had the chance to ask some CN signal maintainers the original question posed here, and neither one of them knew anything about upgrades to the Dearborn sub. Not saying that this won't happen, but generally speaking, CN employees are a bit more informed than the railfan community...
