Re: Weird railroad crossing gate in Wapakoneta, OH.

Or are you thinking about articulated arms?

I like this video better. Most of the tram squares(railroad crossings at grade level) are gone or will be gone.

Re: Weird railroad crossing gate in Wapakoneta, OH.

Are you talking about a manual crank up and down crossing gate?
Similar to this which apparently was automated http://www.rxrsignals.com/Texas/A-F/Dal ... ons/09.jpg

Re: Where Is It?

The bridge was removed before the track to it was removed. IIRC, it was removed concurrent with rehab work MDOT was doing on that stretch of I-75. Corunna Yard saw some usage as car storage near the end. The track came out first, save for the crossings. The bridge came out during its own little pro...

The History Channel produces shows for entertainment purposes.
There are at least 2 variations of the confederate gold story out there. That should give a clue as to how valid either one is.

Re: Where Is It?

That track was still in place beyond Linden Rd all the way to Ballenger Hwy up until about 2010 or so. The crossings and everything was intact, including a brand new setup at the nearby Lennon Rd crossing that was removed. For a long time there was a large "For Sale" sign at the former Ballenger cr...

Re: Reopening a pipeline to bring propane north- hurt GLC?

First of all, where is the propane coming from? and oh, there just happens to be an unused pipeline just sitting around not being used!! and second, where is the propane going? in the news story it says, up north, everyone knows about the NIMBY, unless there going to store the LPG under ground, the...

Electronic bell not mounted at the top of the pole. Don't think I've ever seen it done that way before.

Re: NRE in Dixmoor and Silvis

It wasn't mentioned that the sites would be sold. But assuming NRE is totally vacating the sites, most of those engines and parts probably aren't worth the cost of moving them. Paducah and Mt. Vernon likely lack the room to store all of that stuff in addition to what they currently have on site. The...

Re: Domtar in Port Huron

The Surface Transportation Board now seems to be concerned about those captive traffic terms in the leasing contracts.
The LSRC lease of the Plymouth to Flint line from CSX being an example.
So if LSRC was to lease the PH&D, the traffic will not necessarily flow to CSX.

Re: Where Is It?

DaveO, how do you know all these locations? Galesburg. I'm assuming the flyover didn't use earth embankments due to the tight right-of-way. I don't. But in this case, streetcars and interurbans are something that I've long had an interest in. To remember which flyover was where however required me ...

Re: CSX ops in Flint/PH

CSX retained undisclosed rights to run between Plymouth and Flint. They are using those rights to hand over trains at Novi/Wixom.
CSX operates their own trains using track rights on CN between Flint and Port Huron.

I wonder if Helm leasing said they can keep it. Exhaust stacks not capped probably won't help reliability.
