Re: Hayes Wheels spur Romulus

Went past Hayes this morning 4 May at about 600 AM. My observations: On the CSX spur, I noted that there was a Railbox car on the spur going into that building there. Kinda makes me wonder if whomever's in that building is now getting service. Over on the NS side, I saw some new ties stacked next to...

That would explain why the Fall Color Tours went Clinton-Tecumseh last autumn. The only bridge I know of south of Tecumseh is the one over the River Raisin.

Re: DIANN jct

Sounds about right. Seems like they have one that heads north through Carleton about 1000 or so; I usually hear him if I'm working in the area. I&O, it seems like, runs in the early afternoon when it comes. Sure a far cry from previous years, where if you sat in Carleton for a couple of hours, you w...

Re: RTRR AKA McLouth Steel

Not to rain on your parade, AARR, but the News Herald is reporting (As of mid-March) that the plant Ferrolux is taking over is, in fact, the Gibraltar plant. EDIT: I just reread the article I posted, and saw it was dated 2013 ! But, I still stand by my observation that it's Gibraltar that's being ta...

Re: Conrail at McClouth, Trenton

Didn't they upgrade the tracks on that spur just a year or two ago? Seems like I remember someone mentioning that they were replacing ties along there, which fueled speculation on if anything was going to happen then.

Honestly, I don't think anything's going to come of this either.

Re: Hayes Wheels spur Romulus

The NS spur crossing Huron River Dr looks like it's had some work done, but I only got a quick look. Is this in use now? I noted that it looks like they laid fresh ballast back there; I do know that they took a couple of spurs back there out several years ago, after Hayes moved out. I also wonder i...

Re: Menards possibly coming to Taylor

DTIDave, your post brought back quite a few memories! I think the JITB on Telegraph became Thrifty Florist, if memory serves. That florist is still there to this day; I pass by there once in a while. The one in front of the GTC had a couple of businesses in there over the years; I seem to remember a...

Hayes Wheels spur Romulus

Upon passing by the spur going into Hayes...er, Home Depot Distribution Center in Romulus, I noted that they have a new switch atop the track going into that warehouse-looking building next to the spur. Not only that, but I also noted a smallish section of track next to that. I'd noted in the past t...

Re: Menards possibly coming to Taylor

Oh, so similar to Home Depot, who has a DC in Romulus which uses the old Hayes Wheels spur off CSX.

Come to think of it, they recently opened a Menards up on Middlebelt Road next to the CSX line in Livonia. Though, I am unfamiliar with operations along that line, seeing how I seldom go up that way.

Menards possibly coming to Taylor

I'm posting this here, only because the majority has nothing to do with railroad operations. Having said that, here goes: I've been wondering -- does Menards get rail service at some of their shops? Reason I ask this is I saw an article in the Downriver News-Herald which said that Gibraltar Trade Ce...

Re: Telegraph insulators

Thanks for your insight, everyone! Clears up a bit about not only insulators, but also why some lines seemed to have way more wires alongside the ROW than others. Apparently there was more than met the eye about those poles! MQT3001, if you're looking for insulators, I suggest visiting a railroad me...

Re: Caboose (re)restored in saline LS&MS 77954

That caboose between Saline and Bridgewater, I see every time I go to Bridgewater. Is that where the ROW actually ran from Saline to Bridgewater (And beyond?) Whenever I'm out that way, I never see anything that looks like it could have even been an old railroad ROW. And I usually look pretty carefu...

Telegraph insulators

I've had this question that's been nibbling at my mind for a while now... What did the colors of the insulators on telegraph poles along the ROW signify? The two most common I've seen were clear and green. On the poles that still exist, I've noted that they seemed to be in some kind of organized pla...

Re: Ann Arbor Railroad Updates Jan - Mar 2014

There were a couple of flat cars... I'm not aware that flat cars make regular appearances on AA. They show up on GLC in wood pole service but usually are interchanged with CSX at AnnPere. That's what these looked like -- pole flats or something like that. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying that close a...

Re: Ann Arbor Railroad Updates Jan - Mar 2014

This is ancient now, but... At 14:01, I was headed toward the Bemis Road crossing when it started flashing and the gates lowered. An Ann Arbor Railroad train headed southbound, headed by 1337, 2368, and 2373. He cleared about two minutes later. There were a couple of flat cars, and a BUNCH of covere...
