Elkhart, Main St. Crossing....Not the same :(

Yesterday I took my two year old boy to Elkhart after church to do some quick train watching. Chased Grand Elk to Goshen Ave crossing. My boy caught his first close up encounter. I think it was WAMX 4225 and a WSOR SD-40-2. Super long story short, I took him by Elkhart Station. There were less track...

Re: Elkhart and Western Active line to....?

Correct, It appears that there may be a derail just before current road. He went to INDOT and it is labeled as abandoned/out of service. Now I didn't notice yesterday, but this morning last update was 2005. AM general I believed started getting tankers of something in 2009. Now since then I have see...

Elkhart and Western Active line to....?

Hello a fellow coworker and I were having a heated debate.....hehehe...about what part of the Elkhart and Western line was abandoned. I thought the line was reactivated past Avon Rd. to serve AM General and a Stone Company. Also storage. The coworker whom lived in Oceola, for most of his life said t...

Re: Norfolk Southern midwest layout

Neat layout! I am currently working on a continuous 4x8 layout. I have been brain dead on what to do. Your yard layout kinda got the gears in my little noggin going again. Nice to have a little space reserved for your layout. Someday when the kids leave the house I'll be able to take over one of the...

Re: Fort Wayne to fund high speed rail study

Oy vey... High-speed rail given a big nudge It's been bandied about for years. There have been starts and stalls, but Wednesday marked a significant step in making a high-speed rail system from Chicago to Columbus, Ohio – passing through Fort Wayne – a reality. Re: Elkhart, Ind.

I knew the SD40-2s that run around the yard were remote controlled. When I saw the EP-R4C and its host a GP40-2, I was confused. I thought ELkhart only used remote controlled yard locos. So the unit can be used as remote controlled and ran by a crew.

Re: Idiotic Women Almost Become Hood Ornaments

You would think that there wouldn't be enough clearance for the train to pass over any person. I have heard of a story of a kid getting his foot caught between the ties or something and laid down flat on the tracks to avoid being hit. I see people jogging up and down the Detroit-Chicago line alot. I...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.

Since Elkhart is the topic I was hoping someone has any info on this coach. I think its a baggage car. I make frequent stops around the museum and Station every weekend and it is the first time I have ever seen the thing. http://railroadfan.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=69605&message_id=9ef81f504...

Re: Fort Wayne to fund high speed rail study

Riding the rails is cheaper than flying, but a estimated 2-3 hr flight to Boston from Chicago or South Bend would be 18 hrs with Amtrak. When my wife did the figuring I think it was half the price to go by rail. I think if Amtrak did not have to stop for any traffic and cut the time down with high ...

Re: Fort Wayne to fund high speed rail study

This topic is not worth arguing and getting upset about, The only think that is upsetting about the topic is that it is a waste of money for the amount of people that actually ride the train. In a hurry ? I'm getting on a jet ! and besides the Pennsylvania Railroad was running High Speed to Chicago...

Re: Fort Wayne to fund high speed rail study

Man this discussion is getting a bit ugly. We had to bring Hitler into the mix. You know The Niles, MI depot isn't exactly in the middle of town. It isn't Amtraks fault either. A lot of the stations that I know of were in use well before Amtrak came around. Even if some of the stations appear to be ...

Re: Fort Wayne to fund high speed rail study

Unfortunately, the rail advocacy groups seem hellbent on replicating the 1940's instead of looking at the reality of current times. +1000 Or trying to replicate the European rail network, which works great for them but doesn't translate here. True. If I am not mistaken most europeans populations ar...

Re: Fort Wayne to fund high speed rail study

I heard that Amtrak has never been on time since it started. And please tell me you didn't believe where you heard this from. Amtrak trains freaquently run on time, on some lines more then others of course, but to say Amtrak has never been on time is a crazy statement. Well....I....ah.....well :oop...

Re: History of Southshore line on Bendix Drive and Elkhart.

The tracks that led to the old southshore station seems to be used for storage. The current amtrak station that is. I was wondering when the southshore comes to drop off and pick up? I have a gut feeling its at night. I would like to get some photos somehow. It should be daytime ... especially this...

Re: Detroit Metro-A Pipe Dream for a Subway System?

Question is why Detroit??? Some heavy investment in jobs needs happen first. Just like the interurban down Woodward ave. For what purpose? To see what attraction?
to see Football, Hockey, Baseball, and Casinos? Thats pretty much it. Its not worth it.

Re: Fort Wayne to fund high speed rail study

The Southshore I think is worth its money. The three times I have took the Southshore, I always got to my destination on time. I heard that Amtrak has never been on time since it started. I would take the high speed rail over an airplane any day if it was just close to being on time. Me and my wife ...
