Re: BNSF TEST TRAIN WEST OLIVE

Anumber1: My grandad was a steam driver, in pusher service, in his last years, in Colorado. Unfortunately he passed away, before I had a chance to ask him any ?'s. My dad only remembers him saying he loved working for the RR, but pusher service "scared the hell out of him", anything you might be abl...

Re: Electronics Question

Agree with Garry K 100%. transistors never get to a "true" 100% open or closed state, (don't waste your time at a Radio shack,... anymore, unless theres an odd "speciality" electronics store that I haven't found yet), your best bet is on-line.

Car/Train accident downtown, Washington & South, next to the old depot, 2 car accident, one car was shoved onto the tracks & couldn't be moved in time, no one hurt. They are saying Washington will be closed until 10:00 or 10:30 AM.

Re: New to N scale- what is the best brand?

Al, First off, good luck, I have been in N scale since 1972 (back in the "ugly early" days of N), if you want a small shelf layout and no need for DCC, this would be "MY" list for an engine brand: 1- KATO (As smooth running & quiet as you'll find, a bit pricey but you get what you pay for) 2- ATLAS ...

Re: Lichen Hunt....

Todd, Thanks for the info, I tend to agree with "the most inhospitable spots", I was suprised at where I found it, and where I thought I would find it...nothing (where I did find it though, WAS sand & gravel). I too, only took "so much". If it's found in Switzerland & Norway, I bet there is plenty i...

Re: two questions that have been drivin me nuts

UncleRaul, The old LS&MS Lansing depot was where the Lansing Center is now, just North of Michigan Ave. right on the east bank of the Grand River. The State Journal had a picture of it taken in 1879, from the top of the Capitol Bldg., looking east (Living section May 4, 2004, page 1), still have the...

Re: Train bridge vs trucks

Great shots,
Looks like the CN/GTW viaduct over Pennsylvania Ave. in Lansing. That one even has radar height alarms about 400' before, each way, and they still constantly hit it. I think, from memory it's 14' 1", and loves semis and extra tall truck/vans.

Re: custom painting showcase

PAUL W,
I'm totally impressed with your spray paint jobs. I've been into N-Scale since 1974, and that's the inspiration I needed, to give "spray painting" a shot! Any tips for an "old N-scale fart"?

Re: Lichen Hunt....

Todd, Any particular "areas" you find your lichen in? (near ponds, in fields, ...) I've got 1 "spot" in the Rose Lake Wildlife Research Area, that I find it at, every year, under a long standing grove of old pine trees. (Mid-spring IS the best time). Plenty of it there, I make sure to only take so m...
