Re: CN Updates September 2020
There's an automotive train heading west on the Flint Sub right now- I saw it just before 4 at West Tappan (Wadhams road, just west of Port Huron). CN 8927 and CN 5776 are elephant style. There were several loaded frame flats (more than I remember 501 carrying back when they still ran 501 through th...

Re: Trestle Burns in WA fire
Could have been torched. Seems to be evenly burning from side to side and top to bottom. I could believe anything in Washington state. I don't think it's any of those anti-gov militia types that did this. I read elsewhere that it was indeed started by wildfire. The foreground isn't torched yet when...

Re: Reopening a pipeline to bring propane north- hurt GLC?
The only thing GLC has going for them is that this pipeline goes to Marysville & the caverns in Marysville are predominantly filled by propane that is shipped in by rail. This added transportation & terminal handling cost before the propane hits the pipe is an advantage for GLC, but it could still ...

Re: CN Updates September 2020
There's a westbound autorack train, likely somewhere west of Port Huron now, with BCOL 4622 trailing a CN unit. They'll be running a little behind the two mixed freights and intermodal that went west out of PH earlier (sorry, didn't catch any symbols on the scanner).

Re: Domtar in Port Huron
The Dunn mill in Port Huron had been shut down by its owner for a while when Dunn bought it and reopened it. I'm drawing a blank on who owned it when it was shut down, but it was a James River plant at one time. Unfortunately there probably aren't any more startup companies looking for a closed mill...

Re: CSX ops in Flint/PH
They also handle plastic pellets, resin and a few box cars for Cargill Salt in St. Clair. Resin? Where is the resin coming from or going to? Do you know what kind of cars they're handling it in? Is it going to the transload on the north end of the new yard down by St. Clair (just off of Davis Road)...

A show is a show, and from what I've heard, it may be the only one (or one of the very few) taking place at all this year.

Re: If the Rails Were Still There
Just out of curiosity, did the paper railroad part of this site go away? It's not exactly a paper railroad and it's not what I'm actively modeling, but I do have a working theory about the Detroit Caro & Sandusky that resulted in painting a couple locomotives for what it's modern day equivalent coul...

Re: PH&D customer question
As far as I am aware, there was no customer between the power plants and MC, although there were quite a few customers in MC at one time. A list of customers between 1920 and 1929 shows 21 customers in MC and what they shipped/received. I don't have an electronic copy of anything to post, but by the...

Re: Port Huron Editorial: Safety rolls on archaic rail brakes
The original post is a couple years old, but it's funny that you mention the stuff going by truck. It's been several years (back when the TH had a competent, local staff, capable of objective reporting- well before the editorial posted above), but I remember the Times Herald writing about the stuff ...

Re: LSRC SD50's
Well that explains quite a bit. I'd wondered what LSRC would have to send to another operation, not connected to the current operation (like when North Judson took their bid to replace Felix Powell's Chesapeake and Indiana a couple years ago). The current roster didn't seem to have room to spare for...

Re: how i see mile makers
Are you asking about the line Metra runs on through Des Plaines? It looks like the Metra station is at mp 16.7 (according to http://www.chicagorailfan.com/mmupnw.html . Based on where you are compared to the Des Plaines station and the mileposts listed just before and after it, you should be able to...

Re: Transformer on LSRC
The transformers to St Clair would have been for the gas plant DTE is building to replace the coal plants. 80mac will probably correct me on this, but Consumers is building several gas turbine plants around the state (including Gaylord, iirc)- would they be receiving components for those plants by r...

Re: CSX New Customer in Marysville
I don't think they ship by rail. I think they have the ability to receive grain by rail, for the odd time that regional supply by truck can't fill demand, but they source grain from quite a distance away- one day this week I followed a pair of semis from Vassar onto the freeway, which had come from ...

Re: CSX New Customer in Marysville
Thank you for the update GLR. Nice to see you on this board, it's been a while. Occasionally I've seen shorty covered hoppers in the CSX trains between Flint and Port Huron. I wondered is those were going to Bulk Guys (sand, salt, etc.) but apparently those cars go somewhere else or are spacers. No...
