Re: Brighton MI's Former Industries
Bob, do you recall a place just west of Rickett Road that was repairing railcars? They claimed in one of the YouTube channels I follow it used to fix railcars. Troy Clogg bought it and turned it into a landscape supply yard. The 22 minute mark in the video Troy talks about the railcar part. https://...

Re: Abandoned Rails in the Flint Area
I grew up in Flint, albeit I left before you were born. The line that crossed I-75 was the former GTW main that at one time passed through downtown Flint. It was severed in the middle in preparation for the construction of I-475, as well as to get the tracks out of downtown Flint. Timeframe for thi...

Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
I can’t help but wonder if someday the HNW will extend the siding back across Fillmore Rd. like it was in the past. I also wonder if the HNW will be required to put signals and crossing protection up at the Fillmore Rd. grade crossing. From the looks of it they can start unloading rail cars today. ...

King steel built a new track into their plant south of Baldwin along Holly Rd. You can only see the switch installed at Newark on Google Earth. The imagery is out of date. Even the new Magna plant is still a forest.

Re: ADBF/JAIL Changes Made Under New Ownership
There are a ton of places that upgraded the electronics on locomotives to try and make them better in the 80-s, 90s and early 2000s and when those places went out of business or came out with something else the systems become defunct and they stop supporting it. Most of your -2 locomotives are still...

Didn't Lake State park those GP40s because they had an upgraded electrical system that was outdated and they were un-reliable?

The trash is trucked to Will Carleton landfill. We did a job next to the dump and the trucks went by all day long.

Re: Diverse lashups and Huge trains - Royal Oak, Michigan
Lucky me, I was stuck on Van Horn at flat rock while that train with the CP unit waited for an inbound to yard. 45 mins I sat there in my dump truck. I was figuring by the time I got loaded and back to the shop in Holly they would go by again but I never did see it.

There was a logging line near Sidnaw in the UP that was close to 20% I believe. There was an article on it in the 60s or 70s written by Clint Jones.

We did a fairly big waterman job over the winter and Summer up the road in Waltz not too long ago. Afternoons were the busiest. If you want good food, the Chinese place in Carleton is top notch, as well as the pizza place by the tracks. Hollywood Party store in Waltz is top notch for snacks and Subs.

Re: Petersburg and related things.
I found an interesting answer and some interesting additional information looking through the resources. The mainline, once completed did actually run from the east side of Petersburg to Dundee. The line on the west side of Dundee did run up into Petersburg, but the line was apparently never actual...

Re: EPA publishes final rule to allow California locomotive emissions regulations to go into effect December 8th
No, give them what they want-- no diesels in Cali., in trains, trucks, anything. No construction equipment, ambulances, concrete mixers, fire trucks--- get rid of it all. No trucks to deliver anything-- food, fuel, the same for trains. Then- try to run a state, with those rules. The technology isn'...

Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
I’m still not really sure why the Hamilton Northwestern has been dormant for almost the last year. Nobody has given any real concrete explanation. What’s really sad is there have been some really hard working people who have put a lot of time and a lot of money into this business venture and at thi...
