Re: Railroad Capacity-Only part of the story
Back when hiring wasn't the (sarcasm) science that they've tried to make it into, the railroads never seemed to hire until an increase in business became almost overwhelming. More than once, shortly after they hired, business would fall off and the new help would be furloughed. Now, they seem to ov...

Re: Railroad Capacity-Only part of the story
Traffic highs and lows are one thing, but, the retirement of almost half of the current, full time, employed workforce is another. These men and women are the ones not on the extra board...they are the established crews that have the steady work. Again, not to drive this to hard...we do not have the...

Re: Railroad Capacity-Only part of the story
Dispatching errors, management errors, et.al...are all products of a training process that has not necessarily stayed current with the times. We've all heard the stories of the new trainmaster trainee that did not know the difference between a box car and a flat car... (well one can haul a box, cant...

Re: Everything/Anything CF&E thread...Part 3
Train will tie up in Lima tonight. I passed Cole Street yard around 5:45 to see several vans ready to pick up folks off the train. I then passed the train outside of Elida, Ohio on my way to Delphos for a meeting. I've not seen the OCS at night, but, from what I could see, the interior is beautiful....

Oil Trains for Lima- Break Out Discussion
Hi all: There was mention in "The Definitive" thread regarding unit oil coming down the DT&I for Husky. I decided to break that discussion out of that thread seeing that has little to do with the ND&W. First, all of this discussion is for a project that will not come to fruition for another 2 to 2 1...

Re: Railroad Capacity-Only part of the story
No rant! Spot on!!!! The railroads have a labor relationship management problem. With the demographic changes, you can't keep doing what you are doing and get the same results. I am sure there are some very high paid consultants out there who have realized this...(if not, here is my start up) and ar...

Re: Railroad Capacity-Only part of the story
Yes, with data sets provided by yours truly...its what I do... You are right, the drug number was not correct, it is was a little high, the correct number is more like 35 to 40% failure rate, depending on industry. And that is a sweeping generalization, for what its worth, he was misquoted, but, he ...

Railroad Capacity-Only part of the story
I've found the various points of view regarding how to solve the railroad capacity issue interesting. However, everyone seems to not realize the issue is far beyond double tracking or re-activating a line. At the end of the day, you can have all the track capacity, congestion by-passes, locomotives ...

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Crude would not come down the DT&I, but come across the CF&E from Chicago. CG Tower My guess is Pioneer doesn't want to pay its half of the maintainance if it doesn't cross the diamond. Bingo ! and besides there is no reason to cross, Crews (G&W) have been working on the bridge to the south of the f...

Re: NS Peavine talk
The Peavine is not likely to reopen any time soon, however, NS is wise not to just to a slash and burn approach to its removal, that could have easily happened. Not sure what the answer would be on the brass hi-railing the line...other then maybe to doing a valuation of the line...but its hard to sa...

They replaced the switch at Vera earlier this year. When they layed the switch they put a hand throw switch in it's place. And I work out of Portsmouth. The Columbus District was my old stomping grounds having grown up in Ashville. We were just in Portsmouth last Sunday and visited the hallowed gro...

Re: Rj Corman Western Ohio Lines ST Marys, SPEG, Greenville
NS running through on the former NKP is never, and I repeat, never , going to happen again. I agree that the line will not likely be a through route for NS, however, traffic could return between two major locations on this line if current plans change with a major industry located along this line. ...

We had a decent Sunday last Sunday in Elkhart, Goshen and on the Marion Branch. The amount of track work and such being done is really amazing to see.
