Re: Ann Arbor to Traverse City study

Is it just me or did they get carried away with how high they raised the roadbed of I-96 above 23? I haven't been through it in a bit but seems like it has 18-20ft clearance, which requires an even longer and steeper grade for both directions of traffic. I'd like to think that they learned lessons ...

That's looking south from Park St/Lynn Street crossing of the GLC in Ashley, with the Middleton branch heading off to the right.

Re: Amtrak Michigan Services: Schedule Effective 07/16/18

Third option is to get that new belt railroad around Chicago built, freeing up plenty of Chicago Line space. But note, I'm listing these in order of increasing "probably not", so yeah... Yeah, that's definitely the least likely option. The scheme went from "probably not" to effectively "never". The...

Re: Ex-Boyne City RR "Ladybug" caught in Indiana Museum Disp

It looks like there's still hope for #91/70- a list of ITM equipment that was linked over at RyPN shows it as having either been sold to the City of Kokomo or lined up to be moved to Kokomo under Museum ownership. The document was a bit vague. It is still on site at the park at Noblesville, however.

Ex-Boyne City RR "Ladybug" caught in Indiana Museum Dispute

Former Boyne City/Boyne Valley RR GE 44-ton switcher #70, nicknamed "Ladybug" is one of the pieces of the Indiana Transportation Museum (ITM) collection that is at risk, now that the ITM has been ordered to clear out of its home in Noblesville, Indiana by July 12. First, a short and simplified synop...

The Muskegon RR Historical Society's rolling stock

In assembling my notes on the C&O RoadRailers for an article I'm working on, I've found that I don't have any rough dates for when the rolling stock collection at Muskegon was dispersed from its old location at the Union Station. Does anyone recall which year that was? And while I'm asking, how abou...

Re: There goes GE...

For a while, at least, wasn't one of the big selling points for buying locomotives from GE that they seamlessly financed purchases through GE Capital?

If that feature were to go away, I wonder how it would affect the product line under new owners?

A couple of us came up from SE Michigan to take part in this operating session, yesterday. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and found the GRMRHS guys to be great hosts. Re: Ann Arbor Mode Railroad Club show 2017

I had a good time. I haven't been looking for too much lately, but picked up a number of painted HO scale figures cheap, some scenery material, and a batch of Code 70 turnouts for a decent price. Notable by their absence were Dave's Books, Steve's Trains, and Funaro & Camerlengo. My understanding is...

I don't believe that the Total / Leonard refinery in Alma could manufacture Jet Fuel. If the Alma refinery could make Jet A / JP-4 I doubt that they could make enough to meet Wurtsmith's needs. I recall reading somewhere that the Crystal Flash(?) refinery along the GTW in Carson City produced jet f...

Why wouldn't they move it on it's own wheels ? Most other locomotives are shipped that way. It's got some major problems (brakes I think is the big one) so no major railroad will allow it to operate over their tracks. peter So. Why don't they fix them, going to have to anyhow if it going to be rest...

Re: RIP, Gene Wilder, you'll be missed.

It was rather depressing to go through the IMDB entry for Blazing Saddles last night and realize that you now have to get to the sixth actor listed before you get to one who is still alive. Granted, the film was released 42 years ago. Such is life. 2016 has been a rough year for icons of the enterta...
