Re: Ann Arbor-Detroit Commuter Rail

Well for now my guess would be to lease a few AMTK P42's. They might eventually move to something closer to the F59PHI, or another "high-speed" type locomotive. Where are these going to come from? Amtrak does not have any spares. Have you noticed how the number of freight units on Amtrak trains has...

Re: Ann Arbor-Detroit Commuter Rail

The article says "contracts are signed to purchase ... locomotives." So, if contracts are signed, then they must know what they are getting. If GTWChris has an in with SEMCOG, perhaps he can tell up what they have coming.

I'm referring to all the hoopla over getting new ES44ACs, or refurbished C40-8's, and so on.

Re: LS&I Getting some big new to them power

I hate to speculate, but I did see this today: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2101245 Looks like these just came off lease and are going to Relco for inspection. I don't know if these are for LS&I, but the quantity is about right. I'm not much for trusting LS&I "new power" rumors, ...

Re: 1980s Michigan Photos

The question of what happened to John Uckley comes up about once a year. A number of Uckley's prints were for sale at the Blissfield Antiques Mall in the late 1990's. Now that the slides have surfaced, it seems likely that Uckley is dead, as I'd imagine he'd have kept his original slides if he were ...

I might be mistaken, but I think "Class 3" standards equate to a speed limit of 40 mph.

Re: TSBY

Do the current TSBY repaints and the lease units have white noses? It seems to me that one would be able to paint the top surface with a grey anti-reflective (and antislip) surface that would solve the problem of the glare.

Re: TSBY

Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I could have done it all in Illustrator, but it would have taken far longer. You can do all sorts of fun things in Illustrator, and I have a few stock locomotive designs that I keep around to play with when I want to visualize a paint scheme. http://homepage.mac.com/...

Re: TSBY

The biggest problem with a GP35? Well as someone "in the know" i'd say the biggest problem is......................... THE PAINT!!!!!!! BRING BACK THE "Ann Arbor" billboard paint scheme!!!!!!! You mean like this? It's nice that they are painting units, but I'd prefer to see something with a little ...

Re: Grand Elk took over Sat. 3/7

Uh, unless something really radical and new happened, that *is* the Grand Elk paint scheme.

Of all the Watco roads, only the Austin & Western has anything that resembles a decent paint scheme. Not sure whythey picked that railroad ... but it is what it is.

Re: XT for Sale

Mike,

Canon embeds the actuation count in the exif data. There are various freeware programs online that will display the actuation count. Furthermore, if a camera is set to continuous renumbering, the file number will not go backwards/regress until it rolls over 10,000.
