Re: CSX Train Location Update 2-03-14

Based on consist and direction, a likely Q335 was rolling through Ensel at 1815. Last I knew, there were three of them dead between Fowlerville and Ensel, Two Q335's and one S335. Could be any one of them for as long as they have been sitting. Perhaps even using an Ensel crew seeing there has not b...

Re: Grand Rapids area 2013 flood

Would failing to open to top hatches simply cause slow unloading, or would it lead to physical damage? i.e. would the side walls collapse in due to negative pressure?

G879 is headed to Grand Ledge. Just got EC1 for Ensel to Sunfield and a separate one for the siding. Sounds like a cab has already been order for the crew.

Re: Jackson & Lansing equipment

I can't comment on the innards of the building. But, when I drove past it in October, looked to be pretty complete from the outside.

G852-17 getting EC1 from Grand Ledge to Ensel. Ready to head east. Sounded like around 90 loads.

D708 building their train in Ensel. Predicted a 1030 departure.

Re: CSX Train Location Update 12-16-13

Q335 was rolling through Ensel about 5-10 minutes ago. Something eastbound hit the Okemos DD about the same time.

In past news, D708 returned to Ensel at around 1440 today.

Narrowband and NXDN digital are separate. Most use narrowband analog right now.

FWIW D708 has had 2-3 filled Thai Summit scrap gons with them on their return trip twice this week. They still frequently refer to stopping at 'Ogihara' when talking to the RN in the morning.

Re: Rail fanning in the Lansing area

AAR 36 - you can determine that they are 'in town' when you pick up traffic, however they have gone to trunked NXDN. So what frequencies are they using on the trunked radios. Best that I can determine from traffic is that they are using single frequency trunking around Lansing. The trick is that it...

Re: Jackson & Lansing equipment

I think the only customers are Padnos and Alro just north of the yard. The yard is only used for storage FAIK and I don't think there's a lot there right now. A while back it was full of tank cars. Okay, I followed the belt on google maps and saw other customers, but I know not everyone ships by ra...

Re: Rail fanning in the Lansing area

Having the AAR channel numbers on a scanner doesn't do much good unless you know the actual frequencies. For example, the CSX road channel is 160.230 True enough. When writing it, I was intending to link to a standard list of AAR frequencies. Clearly I forgot. So, without further ado: http:/...

Re: Switch heaters

Is the propane vs. electric a 'cost' saving choice? My thought being that perhaps it is cheaper, energy cost-wise, to use propane. Has to be some trade off in labor cost to fill the tank and service them when they need to be (re-)lit, though.
