Why are you mentioning the HESR? This had nothing to do with them it was a Lake State train. You guys from outside of the tri-cities need to stop monday morning quarterbacking about what goes on up this way.

And why bring up a discussion that was over like 2 weeks ago...

I would rather see photos from various different places on these lines myself than screen shots from a simulator. If you scout out places beforehand it will make recreating them that much easier. This is also true for modeling, but I don’t do that either.

I wasnt aware that HESR had any SD40-2s. Needs a little more work to be acurate, like the fact that there coming straight into the yard off on the Port Huron Wye.

Actually if you went down there during the day and parked either near the Renaissance Center or in Eastern Market your car wouldn’t be touched by a soul, and likely wouldn’t be at night either. If you drive down Russell Street in the summer you’ll see everyone from the suburbs down there buying fres...

Well it’s a good thing I didn’t drive down today to take photos of the cleanup if I couldn’t get that close up. It was hard to get a look at things last night.

Train Derailment in Saginaw

SBS Z127 derailed tonight in Saginaw just after 9pm. The derailment happened along North 15th Street between I-675 and Wadsworth at the southern end of yard. 5 cars were involved: 4 covered hoppers and one tank car. There are cars on their sides, including the tank car, with another leaning against ...

For some reason I was thinking it was some sort of Ipod or music playing device.

The 740 job went out there on Thursday afternoon with about that many cars and brought back about 8-10 loads. What you saw I think were those cars from Thursday coming back from Auburn after being loaded.

It maybe a little off topic, but this isnt the first time that the CEFX 123 has made it to Michigan this year. I shot it at Saginaw Yard back on March 13th.

I got a nice cloudy day shot of them coming down the Holly near Pittsburg Road just south of Durand. It was CSXT 8820 and 8436.

you propose that anytime someone hasals you about photographing, we should just avoid, that area? In this case I say yes. If you know the cops in Morrice are giving railfans a hard time why not find another place along the Flint Subdivision to watch trains outside his jurisdiction. If you know this...

I drive a 2003 Chevy Cavalier. Does good with the gas mileage since most of the miles I’ve done in the last year have been going to work and take photos. It also does pretty well driving in the snow, and did surprisingly well when I hit a deer around Halloween.

There is a simple solution to this problem in my eyes: Just railfan in another area of Shiawassee County. Let’s see there are Durand, Bancroft, Perry and Shaftsburg along the Flint Subdivision. The cop had nothing better to do in a town of 800 people at 9:30am, that’s all this comes down to. I have ...

I caught the D709 heading east out of Lansing tonight around 8:30 with the CSXT 2654 with their first stop being the siding at Fowlerville. I had a good evening watching trains in Battle Creek, Lansing, Durand, and Swartz Creek on my way back from K-Zoo.

Man is it the end of November sweeps already. You ever notice that all the television news stations save all their investigative and special reports until now in an attempt to boost ratings. I’m not sure if a special report such as this would air in other parts of the year, or if they just saved it ...

I also saw this train but I was at Salzburg Avenue in Bay City. Power was CMGN 5175 and 8903. There has been a set or two of coal hoppers in Wenona Yard since the contract returned to the SBS so I believe that they were bringing those empties back to Durand for fowarding. The 8804 and MNN 1471 were ...

Its just a movie. The person who wrote the screenplay more than likely has no working knowledge of how railroads operate with it focusing away from railroading the further it goes.
