Re: J H Campbell coal plant Port Sheldon
Looks to be an SW1200 that is remote control, the slug looks like its a ballast slug, no stacks and a porch on each end like an SW1. Just using the traction motors on the slug powered from the SW1200 for slow speed shoves. Cow/calves or TR2s had prime movers in both units.

Re: J H Campbell coal plant Port Sheldon
Thanks for posting the pics. These are units I didn't know existed. When I was conductor on Illinois Central suburban trains in the 1960s we had a lot of cow/calf units at Homewood. They also transversed the St. Charles Air line on the up and over at Central Station on the lakefront on locals and tr...

J H Campbell coal plant Port Sheldon
Has anyone seen photos of the cow/calf switcher set at this location. Google satellite photo of plant shows a set on the loop track inside the facility. I didn't know the power company had there own switcher? Also see where coal will still be used until at least 2031 for units 1 & 2, and 2040 for un...

I ran into an Alex Huff at Pizza Ranch in Ft. Pierre SD after looking at his collection of engines at Chamberlain SD. It was right after a straight line wind thunderstrom event as all the silos were blown down in the fields. Summer of 2015.

Related to this is the new bridge over the Manistee River still a work in progress by MDOT? No cutbacks to the budget due to COVID and gas tax revenue have held it up? I ask because there have been no updates about it lately?

4th street is still the old installation. Cowling and Park also. Not sure if they will be replaced? They have been changed to approach lit instead of on all the time for years.

The Burns Harbor job brings them to Niles. One time caught them in Michigan City sitting in the siding with a whole train of Herzog ballast hoppers. That was when they were laying down a lot of ballast. They position them for Amtrak at Lawton too and then Amtrak uses their truck/loco where needed.

Since the farmers that owned it are awaiting their fate with the bankruptcy court? Amtraks had clear sailing thru this area as the freight on this end has all but vanished. I would ...
